Each week, Newscast’s Adam Fleming takes on a topic that’s generating conflict and seeks out challenging perspectives and illuminating context.

Over the course of each hour-long programme, Adam and his guests will discuss how certain topics have been fiercely debated online and why they have ignited such fervour. They will fact check the claims and counter-claims, and hear from people whose voices are often drowned out.

AntiSocial gets to the heart of the matter by championing everything that can struggle to survive within the current media and social media landscape: explanation, nuance, analysis and empathy.

By the end of the hour, listeners will have a better understanding of what evidence exists on different sides of the debate, why others might think what they think and what the argument is really all about.

Adam Fleming, presenter of AntiSocial, says: “I totally loved covering the Brexit talks and Westminster politics but I felt I was only scratching the surface of some of the big things going on in the country and the world right now so it’ll be amazing to spend an hour each week looking at just one issue.

"I'd much rather have an informative chat than a big row. If people start listening to AntiSocial going 'Aaargh' but end up going 'Ahhh...' then we will have done our job."

Mohit Bakaya, Director of Speech, says: “AntiSocial is a project dear to my heart. I want Radio 4 to be a public square for greater understanding A space filled with different perspectives, history, analysis, evidence and nuance. AntiSocial is aimed at all those people who wish for more light, less heat. Listeners on Radio 4 and Sounds who want to escape the echo chamber and calmly understand the issues that can divide our society from all sides”

AntiSocial (12 x 60’) is a new series hosted by Adam Fleming. It is a BBC News Long Form Audio production for BBC Radio 4. The Producers are Lucy Proctor and Simon Maybin. The Editor is Emma Rippon.

It will be broadcast Fridays at 12pm on BBC Radio 4 from 24 June, and be available on BBC Sounds.
