Home Sweet Rome! focuses on 13-year-old Lucy (Kensington Tallman), who moves from America to start a new life in Rome with her dad (Darrin Rose), an archaeologist, and stepmother Francesca (Eleonora Facchini), a famous Italian pop star.

Lucy will have to adapt to these big changes whilst navigating through all the growing pains of being a teenager – not easy when her best friend Kyla (Ava Ro) is now 6000 miles away.

Home Sweet Rome! is a music-driven comedy drama based on a concept by the creator of Hannah Montana, Michael Poryes.

Episode one - Mamma Mia!

Lucy tries to settle into life in Rome and does her best to fit in at her new school, even though her best friend Kyla is 6000 miles away. Things get even more complicated for Lucy when she finds out that her new Italian pop star stepmum, Francesca, wants Lucy to call her “Mom”!

Episode two – Who Knows Fashion Better Than Italians?

Lucy takes Francesca’s advice to forget her problems at school by attending her first big red carpet event. Lucy loves all the fashion and the free shrimp, but she’s surprised when her school troubles follow her to the big event... Meanwhile, Dad takes some fashion advice from 10-year-old Bruno and thinks he needs to be much cooler to live up to the reputations of Francesca’s famous ex-boyfriends.

Episode three – Feel Good Field Trip

Lucy hopes the school trip to the historic Villa Adriana is the perfect time to reinvent herself and win over her new schoolmates... until her dad reveals he’ll be chaperoning, throwing a wrench into Lucy’s plans. Back at home, Francesca’s been given an enormous opportunity to write the theme song for an international football tournament but before she can sit down to work on it, she has a tiny problem: there’s a mouse in her house.

Episode four - The Stepmom Multiverse

Lucy feels really homesick so Francesca tries to cheer her up by letting Lucy experience the life of a pop star, but is that what Lucy really wants? Kyla also has problems after her own stepmother tries to enlist her to help promote her latest business venture.

Episode five – Coconut Dog Day

Despite the distance between them, Lucy and Kyla do everything they possibly can to celebrate their favourite holiday of the year together, Coconut Dog Day! Their thinking is that you can’t be unhappy when you’re drinking out of a coconut.

About

Home Sweet Rome!, based on a concept by the creator of Hannah Montana, Michael Poryes, launches in the UK on Monday 24 July on CBBC and BBC iPlayer.

The comedy drama focuses on 13-year-old Lucy (Kensington Tallman), who moves from America to start a new life in Rome with her dad (Darrin Rose), an archaeologist, and stepmother Francesca (Eleonora Facchini), a famous Italian pop star.

Lucy will have to adapt to these big changes whilst navigating through all the growing pains of being a teenager – not easy when her best friend Kyla (Ava Ro) is now 6000 miles away.

With new friends, amazing food and haute fashion, Lucy’s adventures abroad begin as, with Francesca’s help, she embraces her love for music and launches her own path to pop stardom.

The music-filled live-action series was shot on location in Rome and features original songs in each episode by Award winning and multi-platinum songwriter/producer/composer Chen Neeman and Grammy Award winning and Emmy- and Annie- and Hollywood Music In Media Awards nominated composer Alex Geringas.

“This series was a labor of love for me for a few years as I constantly developed and created the concept and made it fuller and more relatable,” says Michael Poryes. “The wish-fulfillment of the adventure of moving to Rome, combined with the truth of missing your life and friends back home was always key. But still I felt something was missing, so I added the music element to further bring to life the emotions of the characters and situations.”

Sarah Muller, Senior Head of BBC Children’s Commissioning 7+, says: “Home Sweet Rome! is such an ambitious show and we know that our audience will love the upbeat and aspirational storytelling all set against the fabulous backdrop of Rome.”

Home Sweet Rome! is an Italian-Canadian co-production by Italy’s Red Monk Studio, a SUPERPROD Group company, and Canada’s First Generation Films. Home Sweet Rome! was developed and written by Humanitas Award winner Matt Huether and Emmy Award nominee Courtney Jane Walker.

Home Sweet Rome! joins a roster of drama for young teens available on BBC iPlayer which also includes Phoenix Rise, A Kind of Spark, Jamie Johnson and The Next Step.
