The Blue Peter sport badge is awarded to children aged 5-15 for getting active and trying a sport that you have never tried before. Leah says: “It’s such an honour to design the new Blue Peter Sport badge. I want to inspire a new generation to try different sports, to believe in themselves and dream big. I hope they feel the same joy I do when taking part in sport.” Leah’s design includes a football, rugby ball, cricket ball, tennis ball and a badminton shuttlecock to inspire young people to try lots of different sports. Blue Peter's famous ship-shaped emblem also features in the centre of the new badge. Blue Peter Presenter, Abby Cook is passionate about helping to break down barriers to sport. Abby said that “I love the new badge. Sport is so important; it is so good for mental health as well as getting you out and active. So, don’t let anything stop you, get involved and give a new activity a go. I can’t wait to see all your pictures and read about what sports you’ve been doing to earn your badges!” Last month Blue Peter celebrated 60 years of the show’s coveted badge which was first introduced by Biddy Baxter on 17 June 1963. Today there are eight types of badges – Blue, Silver, Green, Sport, Purple, Orange, Gold and Music. The 2021 Sport Badge was designed by Britain’s youngest Olympian, Sky Brown.
