The Code SwitchWritten & directed by Shakill JamalJuly 14-30 at Baltimore Theatre ProjectOFFICIAL PRESS RELEASENEWS PROVIDED BY Casanova Records BALTIMORE, MD - Sisters Freehold is proud to present the world premiere of The Code Switch, written & directed by local artist Shakill Jamal. “What does it mean to be your most authentic self?” asks the playwright. “Why is it that we can't be that person 100% of the time?” Jamal’s fast-paced social satire puts the complicated concept of code-switching centerstage. Is it a problem or a necessary tool for survival? A cast of six performers take audiences on a journey from the playground to the animal kingdom, with stops at the workplace and inside language itself. Sometimes cutthroat, occasionally heartfelt, and always unexpected, The Code Switch is intended to open up a conversation about this everyday human behavior. The artist continues: "Really, even more than getting people to acknowledge code-switching as an odd blip in our evolutionary process, I want people to really ask themselves who they are for real." Tickets are general admission and priced on a sliding scale: $15-35. Performances are Thursday-Sunday July 14-30 at Baltimore Theatre Project, 45 W. Preston St, Baltimore, MD 21201. A facilitated talkback will follow each performance.
