3 April 2024 – “Following her worldwide 2023 hit “Water,” the South African songwriter Tyla has now released her self-titled debut album, merging African rhythms with English lyrics and R&B delivery.” - THE NEW YORK TIMES

“Tyla never abandons her sound in her debut. Instead, she makes her boldest, stylistic choices as subtle as possible, cementing her growing status as a pop star.” - VARIETY

“…amapiano probably couldn’t ask for a more effective ambassador.” - ROLLING STONE

“The South African singer’s star-making debut is a lithe, contemporary take on pop-R&B that pulses with the log-drum heartbeat of amapiano.” - PITCHFORK

“Through sheer faith and tenacity, Tyla anoints herself as South Africa’s brightest new star, reinforcing that amapiano was never a ‘moment’ – and only ever a true movement.” - NME

“ …TYLA is more than just a party — it’s a declaration of the singer’s pop stardom” - UPROXX

Tyla makes history yet again, earning the highest US Billboard 200 Albums Chart debut ever by an African female soloist with the release of her debut album, ‘TYLA.’ She is also the first artist to occupy 7 of the top 10 spots on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats chart.

Tyla, the Grammy-Winning Amapiano Pop – R&B Global sensation behind the record-setting hit song “Water” and one of 2023’s most exhilarating runs, continues her ascent today with another historic mark. Tyla’s debut studio album, TYLA, becomes the highest-charting album on the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart by a female African soloist in chart history with its Top 25 debut at #24, thanks in part to over 26M domestic streams.

The new album, released on March 22, also achieves several other Billboard Top 5 chart debuts, including a #1 slot on the Current R&B Album Chart, #2 on the R&B Overall Consumption Chart and #3 on the Current R&B & Hip Hop Chart. It also marks Tyla as the first artist to occupy 7 of the top 10 spots on the Afrobeats chart.

Additionally, Tyla enjoyed Top 20 debuts on several global charts, including UK, New Zealand, Netherlands and Switzerland—a truly breakout campaign for one of the international music scene’s brightest new stars.

TYLA, which clocks at 14 tracks and features Travis Scott, Becky G, Gunna, Skillibeng and Kelvin Momo, is available now.

Early returns have been overwhelmingly positive. Rolling Stone says that Tyla cements the singer as the “perfect Amapiano ambassador,” while Pitchfork labels the album “Best New Music,” with a glowing rating of 8.0.

The accolades continue to pile up for Tyla, who became the highest-charting female African soloist on the US Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart last year, during the meteoric rise of “Water,” which earned a RIAA Platinum plaque and a peak as the #7 song in the country on the Billboard 100. To start 2024, Tyla received her first-career GRAMMY Award off her first-career nomination when “Water” took home the prize for “Best African Music Performance.”

The follow-up singles to “Water” have been testaments to Tyla’s staying power. “Truth Or Dare,” which flaunts a recently-released NABIL-directed music video, has become a fan favorite and has been viewed over 12 million times on YouTube and racked up over 50M Spotify streams in just over a month. The video feature for album standout “Art,” released the same night as the album, has racked up 5M YouTube views in just 10 days.

TYLA, the first full-length studio album, titled after a truly budding superstar, is now available.
