Classic FM – the UK’s most popular classical music station – will celebrate its 30th birthday this autumn with a special movie music concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, on Monday 10th October.

Classic FM Live with Viking will be packed with the greatest movie hits from the most iconic films including Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park, Chariots of Fire and E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, all performed by a line-up of world-class musicians.

Hosted by Classic FM presenters Alexander Armstrong and Margherita Taylor, the evening will feature:

Star solo performances from cellist Hauser, pianist Alexandre Tharaud, organist Anna Lapwood and violinist Braimah Kanneh-Mason
The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Chief Conductor Kirill Karabits
Melody in A minor from The High Pass by Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skoryk
A spectacular lights and fireworks finale to the music of John Williams to celebrate his 90th anniversary year.
The concert will be sponsored by Viking – the leading small ship river, ocean and expedition travel company – as part of its own 25th anniversary celebrations.

For more than two decades, Classic FM has been staging classical music concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall and the special 30th anniversary event will be recorded for broadcast on Classic FM on Saturday 15th October at 7pm.

“Throughout much of Classic FM’s 30 years on air, we have championed and celebrated film music.

“Often a fantastic introduction for people to enjoy and learn about classical music, we were the first UK radio station to launch a weekly radio programme dedicated to movie scores.

“Film music is central to the sound of Classic FM and we continue to see its popularity grow, so a concert of cinema’s most iconic themes performed by an array of classical music stars is the perfect way to mark our milestone birthday.

“It promises to be a brilliant night celebrating the very best movie music.” - PHILIP NOYCE, CLASSIC FM’S MANAGING EDITOR
