'The Fate of the Furious' Crosses $1 Billion In Worldwide Box OfficeWith last night’s grosses, Universal Pictures’ The Fate of the Furious crossed $1 billion at the worldwide box office to become the fifth title to reach that milestone in the studio’s 105-year history. It joins Universal’s Jurassic World ($1.67 billion), Furious 7 ($1.52 billion), Illumination’s Minions ($1.16 billion) and Jurassic Park ($1.04 billion). The Fate of the Furious was the No. 1 movie in the world at the domestic, international and global box office for two weeks, and is projected to remain on top again this weekend in North America for its third week. Boasting the biggest global opening of all time with $542 million ($443.2 million international, $98.8 million domestic), and the biggest international opening weekend of all time, The Fate of the Furious’ total to date is $1.060 billion ($867.6 million international, $192.7 million domestic). The Fate of the Furious opened No. 1 in 68 markets and in China, the film had the largest three-day opening ever in that market ($199.1 million) and has grossed $361 million to date. With 2.43 billion RMB it has passed Furious 7 to become the highest-grossing imported film in China ever. The film has already out-grossed the international lifetime totals of the first six Fast & Furious films: The Fast and the Furious $62.9 million; 2 Fast 2 Furious $109.1 million; The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift $96 million; Fast & Furious $208.3 million; Fast Five $418.5 million and Fast & Furious 6 $553.7 million.
