Three-piece female-rock group ‘Velvet Two Stripes’ release their highly anticipated album ‘No Spell For Moving Water’. The nine-track offering remains true to the group’s ever-evolving raw rock sound. With sisters Sophie and Sara Diggelmann on vocals and guitar, and Franca Mock on bass, the band are determined to move onwards and upwards with their new album.

United by a 15-year band history, Sara spoke on the group’s constant momentum: "Nothing can hold us back any more". This speaks to the band’s confident meandering between the underground and the music industry, as their personal familiarity allows them to constantly dare new things and experiment. "No Spell For Moving Water" speaks to this resilient and magical band ethos - the title alludes to the idea that no evil spell sticks to flowing water, it cannot be cursed and it flows over every stone that lies in its path; if you keep moving, you escape every witch's spell and remain free.

The album was born on trips across the rusty railway bridge on the Columbia River that took them to the recording studio in the summer of 2022, with the band having flown to Portland at the invitation of their producer Dominik Schmidt of Rola Music. With only two songs finished, and the rest only sketches on the mobile phone and ideas in the head, the band contend that it was this pressure that provided the unique sound of “No Spell For Moving Water”. Vocalist Sophie said of the writing process: "We couldn't spend much time polishing the songs. So instead we kept a freshness that you can hear on the album."

“No Spell For Moving Water" is Velvet Two Stripes' most multi-faceted album to date. With contemporary elements of pop, and the help of two luminaries of the rock scene Vance Powell (mixing, e.g. The White Stripes, Buddy Guy) and Pete Lyman (mastering, e.g. Tom Waits, Weezer), the album is perfect for fans of The Kills, Deap Vally, The Dead Weather, or The White Stripes. Speaking on the album, the band testified to the importance of creativity and variety: “There is something special about being holed up with so many creative minds, just letting the magic happen and seeing where it takes us. And it certainly was a magical time [...] It's the good kind of pressure you only have with people determined to make something great together”.

“No Spell For Moving Water is a journey. It is a compilation of stories on life can write. It is about keeping going on because as long as you keep moving, nothing can hold you back.”
