OFFICIAL CHARTS: REVEALED - The Official Top 40 Biggest Singles and Albums of 2017 so far | Invincible Ed Sheeran takes early lead for 2017’s singles and albums crown | Debut albums by Rag’n’Bone Man and Stormzy off to a strong start.

He's said he wants to the biggest pop star of the year, and it looks like Ed Sheeran may well get his wish as new figures unveiled by the Official Charts Company today show Ed dominates the Official Top 40 biggest singles and albums of the year to date.

With the first quarter of the year cleared, invincible Ed is officially smashing it on both the singles and albums front, with his broad appeal translating to commercial success across every release format – physical records, downloads and streams. 

Ed’s double single release at the beginning of 2017 has paid off, kick-starting his incredible ÷ album campaign and a double-header domination of the biggest tracks of the year so far. 

Shape Of You leads the way on the year-to-date Official Singles Chart with a massive 1.8 million combined copies shifted across all formats, while the Suffolk singer-songwriter’s Castle On The Hill secures the second biggest song of the year so far, with 1.1 million equivalent units sold. 

Ed’s huge popularity on streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer and Apple Music, has seen Shape Of You streamed a staggering 121 million times since release, but with 604,000 downloads also under its belt, the reigning chart-topper bags the accolade of the most downloaded track of 2017 so far too.

A total of seven songs by Ed Sheeran appear in the Top 40 list off the back of his hugely successful ÷ album. Galway Girl is proving a hit with the British public, placing seventh (445,000 combined copies), while the seven featured songs from ÷ have collectively amassed 1.2 million individual track downloads as fans cherry-pick their favourites from the collection.

A month after release, Ed's third album ÷ is also way out in front in the biggest records of the year list, shifting an impressive 1.4 million equivalent units across all formats. The album’s runaway success is driven by physical sales with nearly 886,000 copies purchased on CD and vinyl so far, with 280,000 opting to download the album, and the remainder made up of streams. 

Albums round-up:
2017 has been a great year so far for BRIT Awards' Critics' Choice Rag'n'Bone Man – his chart-topping album Human became the fastest-selling male debut album of the decade back in February and is now up in second place in the year-to-date Official Albums Chart, with 394,000 copies to its name.

As Ed fever takes hold, Sheeran’s sophomore effort x makes an appearance as third biggest album of 2017 so far, while Little Mix shimmy up in fourth place with Glory Days. The quartet’s first chart-topping album released last year is still doing the business for them in 2017, with 136,000 copies snapped up in 2017 alone it's the fourth biggest artist album of the year as things stand at the end of the first quarter.

Stormzy's debut Gang Signs & Prayer, which became the first pure grime album to reach Number 1 on the Official Albums Chart last month - is already fifth on the 2017 countdown, with 129,000 combined chart sales, while after just a week after its release, Take That's Wonderland finishes sixth on 112,000. 

Pete Tong and the Heritage Orchestra's Classic House pops up at 7 (102,000 this year) and Drake's More Life is already at 8, with just under 100,000 across physical sales, downloads and streams, since its release mid-March.

At 9, it's the cast recording of Oscar-winning La La Land (98,000), while 2015 and 2016's biggest album, 25 from Adele, also sticks its head round the door, at 10, delivering an additional 94,000 units in 2017 so far.

Singles round-up:
Held off the top only by Ed, Rag’n’Bone Man’s hugely successful breakthrough single Human rides high as the third biggest track of the year, shifting 644,000 equivalent units in 2017, (903,000 since its release last year), while You Don’t Know Me by producer Jax Jones is fourth (595,000).

Rounding off the Top 5 are Little Mix with Touch, the second single from their fourth album Glory Days. The track, which was released last year, peaked at Number 4 and has shifted 515,000 equivalent units so far in 2017 (651,000 including 2016’s numbers). Touch’s predecessor, Shout Out To My Ex, also places 26th.

Following a strong run of form delivering hit after hit, US production duo The Chainsmokers enjoy multiple entries in the list; Paris is currently 2017’s ninth biggest song, Something Just Like This (with Coldplay) is 14th and Closer is 25th.  Rising star Dua Lipa also appears three times, with Be The One at 18, No Lie (with Sean Paul) at 21 and Scared To Be Lonely (with Martin Garrix) at 23.
