Kacey Musgraves and Caity Baser are taking on Ariana Grande this week, with both acts having their first UK Number 1 album in their sights.

As it stands, Ariana is set to spend a second week at the top of the Official Albums Chart with eternal sunshine (1), which became her fifth UK Number 1 album last week.

But you shouldn’t count Kacey Musgraves out yet – the acclaimed US singer-songwriter’s back-to-basics sixth album Deeper Well (2) is less than 1,000 chart units away from Number 1.

Kacey previously claimed two UK Top 10 albums with 2018’s magnum opus Golden Hour (6) and 2021’s divorce record star-Crossed (10).

BRITs Rising Star 2024 nominee Caity Baser is still very much in this conversation for a first Number 1 album, too; her 13-track mixtape Still Learning (3) is a little over 1,500 chart units from the top spot, marking Caity as one of the most exciting emerging pop talents in the country right now. Catch Caity Baser on The Record Club with Bowers & Wilkins this Wednesday at 4.00pm.

Justin Timberlake’s comeback record Everything I Thought I Was (4) also aims for a Top 5 debut. The sixth solo record from Timbo, it would become his sixth UK Top 10 album.

US rockers Black Crowes approach a third UK Top 10 album (and first in 30 years) with Happiness Bastards (7).

AC/DC mark their 50th anniversary as a band with a series of special album re-issues; their first UK Number 1 album, 1980 opus Back in Black, could re-enter the Top 10 (10), while 1979’s Highway to Hell heads for the Top 40 (22), having originally peaked at Number 8.

Elsewhere, Paul Young’s 1983 chart-topping debut solo album No Parlez has been re-issued for its 40th anniversary, and could re-enter the chart at Number 17.

Nothing But Thieves’ chart-topping 2023 LP Dead Club City is predicted to re-enter the Top 40 (21) thanks to the release of its deluxe edition, while electronic musician Four Tet’s Three could become the DJ’s - real name Kieran Hebden - highest-charting collection yet (25).

Mancunian teenage MC Nemzzz approaches his debut Top 40 Albums Chart appearance with mixtape Do Not Disturb (31) and finally, Hastings Beat-punk group Kid Kapichi could score their second UK Top 40 record with There Goes The Neighbourhood (36).
