19 April 2024 – James earn their first-ever Official Number 1 studio album with Yummy this week.

The 18th studio LP from the Mancunian nine-piece, fronted by lead singer Tim Booth, joins 1998 hits compilation The Best Of as their second chart-topper, and 19th UK Top 40 album overall across a career spanning four decades.

Speaking exclusively to Official Charts, James say: “We really appreciate this. We’d really like to thank our amazing audience who’ve stuck with us for 42 years. Thank you so much for going out and buying our Yummy, delicious record, and long may it all continue. Thank you so much. Much appreciated, this means a lot to us!”

Yummy also tops the Official Vinyl Albums Chart, the most popular record on wax this week, and the Official Record Store Chart, the most-purchased physical LP in UK independent record shops over the past seven days.

Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler secures a brand-new entry at Number 3 with latest record One Deep River; matching his previous Official Albums Chart peak achieved with 2015 release Tracker. One Deep River becomes Knopfler’s ninth Top 10 LP to date as a soloist.

Linkin Park earn their first Top 5 album in seven years, and first since the death of frontman Chester Bennington, with hits compilation Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023) (4), while British rock outfit Kris Barras Band secure their first-ever Top 5 record with Halo Effect (5).

Congratulations are in order for Leeds four-piece English Teacher, comprising Lily Fontaine, Lewis Whiting, Douglas Frost and Nicholas Eden. Their debut record This Could Be Texas becomes their first-ever UK Top 10 LP this week (8).

Glaswegian rockers GUN celebrate their first Top 10 album in 30 years with Hombres (10). The band last enjoyed Top 10 success with 1994 record Swagger (4).

Speaking exclusively to Official Charts, GUN say: “We can't believe that we’re in the Top 10 for the first time in 30 years! A heartfelt thanks goes out to all our fans and the support they've given throughout this campaign, which has been nothing short of monumental.

“We'd also like to give a Special thanks to the team at Cooking Vinyl, 23rd Precinct, Nottinghill Music, Cloburn Music and Morsecode Management who helped us reach these heights. Finally, we'd like to say thanks to everyone who bought the record for believing in us.”

Future and Metro Boomin achieve their second Top 40 album in under a month, with WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU in at Number 11. The pair’s first collaborative record WE DON’T TRUST YOU peaked at Number 2 on 29 March.

Elsewhere, Maryland-born singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers secures a third UK Top 40 record with Don’t Forget Me (12), as Mancunian jungle producer, DJ, singer and songwriter Nia Archives earns her first with debut Silence Is Loud (16).

Manic Street Preachers’ 2004 album Lifeblood returns to the Top 40 for the first time in 20 years following an anniversary vinyl reissue (27). Elsewhere, Lana Del Rey’s much-applauded headline Coachella set last weekend sees former chart-topper Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd lift back into the Top 40 (38).

Finally, Chris Brown’s 2023 release 11:11 makes its return to the Top 40 with the release of its deluxe version (39).

Official Singles Chart

Hozier tops the Official Singles Chart for the second week in a row with Too Sweet.

Last week, the rollicking track became Andrew John Hozier-Byrne’s first Number 1 single in the UK, seeing him become the first Irish solo artist to top the UK Singles Chart since Ronan Keating in 2002. Too Sweet stays at the summit this week, showing a 17% increase week-on-week (72,000 chart units), and is once again the most-streamed track in the UK over the last seven days (7.9 million streams).

British producer, singer and songwriter Artemas’s i like the way you kiss me lifts two today, securing a new peak of Number 3 and becoming his first Top 3 hit in the process.

Congratulations are in order for Sabrina Carpenter, who earns the first Top 10 single of her career as the frothy Espresso debuts at Number 6. The US multihyphenate has previously logged three Top 40 entries in the UK; feather (19), Skin (28) and nonsense (32).

Country-pop sensation Dasha’s breakout hit Austin continues to rise, hitting a new peak of Number 7 today.

Dua Lipa’s Illusion is a new entry at Number 9. The third consecutive Top 10 single from her forthcoming third album Radical Optimism follows Houdini (2) and Training Season (4) and becomes her 16th UK Top 10 single.

Perrie’s debut solo single Forget About Us lands the Little Mix star a Number 10 solo debut.

Speaking exclusively to Official Charts, Perrie says: “Top 10, wow! I can’t thank you enough for the love and support everyone has shown Forget About Us. It truly means the world to me!”

Rising US singer-songwriter Mark Ambor’s Belong Together climbs one to Number 13, while The Blessed Madonna and Clementine Douglas enter the Top 20 with Happier, up four to Number 17.

Bakar’s 2019 single Hell N Back jumps five to Number 21, thanks to the release of a new remix featuring Summer Walker. The track originally peaked at Number 20 in 2023.

It’s another week and another new peak for David Guetta & OneRepublic’s I Don’t Wanna Wait, which soars to Number 25, up twelve week-on-week.

Two rising stars claim their first UK Top 40 entries today; 19 year old rapper Lay Bankz is this week’s big gainer, flying a massive 61 places with Tell Ur Girlfriend (31), joined by LA-based alt-pop star Chappell Roan, whose bracing Good Luck, Babe! clambers up 31 slots (33).

She’s back! Natasha Bedingfield teams up with producer Badger for a remix of her classic hit These Words, which breaks into the Top 40 at Number 35. The original track topped the Official Singles Chart for two weeks in 2004.

Finally, South African star Tyla gains her second UK Top 40 hit with Jump featuring Gunna and Skillibeng (38). The track has already hit Number 1 on the Official Afrobeats Chart, and follows Tyla’s breakout smash Water, which peaked at Number 4.
