The moody, funky, gritty notes that Kat plays on her venerable woodwind instrument have energized the stages of nightclubs and festivals across Detroit for decades. She can lay down a heavy funk melody that will mesmerize an audience, then bust out with some rock music, and then easily shift to pop, soul, or jazz. Her musical versatility and repertoire appeal to a wide range of music lovers. Kat Orlando is a hidden treasure. Her latest EP release is called “MINDSET”. Kat taps into a Rick James dance funk groove with “Not That Guy”. “Are you (The Healer)” is a social commentary rock-ish song. She does an adventurous cover of the Turtle’s 60’s song “You Showed Her love of music started at the tender age of 4, listening to the radio and 45’s her Grandmother and Aunt would give her from the jukeboxes at their restaurants. Later, fascinated with the talents of artists like Herbie Mann, Jethro Tull, and Traffic, she began taking lessons and playing the flute at the age of 15. She was also being influenced by the singing of Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, and Grace Slick. She studied with Denver Jazz Bebop Sax Player, George Keith. As as Kat’s 6 album and EP releases, Happenstance: Scenario II in 2018 and Hypothetical Scenario in 2017, were both produced by Grammy-nominated Maurice “Pirahnnahead” Herd. Kat has an unmistakable voice and phrasing all her own. She expresses all emotion and attitude while addressing subjects of love and social issues of today. As a performer, she is totally high energy, switching from lead vocals to sax, flute and harmonica with dancer’s moves at every beat.
