• Peak audience of 734k, highest ever recorded for the event on Sky Sports.
• Sunday’s singles day averaged 438k and drew in the highest peak viewing (734k).
• Average audience of 281k over the three days, up 35% vs 2021.

Numbers demonstrate continued growth in audiences for women’s sport on Sky Sports in 2023, following similar records broken for the Ashes, Women’s Super League and The Hundred.

The 2023 Solheim Cup saw history made as Team Europe retained the trophy for the third successive tournament, with a record-breaking number of viewers watching live on Sky Sports. The audience peaked at 734k on the final day, which was the highest ever recorded for the event on Sky Sports.

Across the three days an average audience of 281k tuned in, with Sunday’s climatic race for the trophy seeing the highest average of 438k, which was 30% up on the 2021 final day in Ohio and makes it the most watched Solheim Cup on Sky Sports ever.

Moreover, the average audience remained consistently high from start to finish, with every single day’s play beating its average from 2021 or earlier, and every day seeing a peak of over 400k.

Across Sky Sports’ digital platforms, there were over 3.7 million views of Solheim Cup editorial content, with 193.4K VOD views on skysports.com and App across the 3-day tournament. On social, Sky Sports Golf on X saw over 5.6 million impressions and 1.7M views, with the video of Emily Pedersen’s hole in one on Sky Sports TikTok drawing in over 25k views.

These numbers are significantly higher than any previous women’s golf content or Solheim Cup weekend on Sky Sports, and such strong viewership comes following a period of continued momentum for women’s sport on Sky, as fans have been watching in record numbers all year across golf, football, cricket and more.

With these figures, this year’s Solheim Cup becomes the 4th highest women’s sport peak ever on Sky Sports, following only the Marshall vs Shields boxing last year, the third Ashes T20 this summer and the Cricket World cup in 2017.

Sky Sports Director of Golf, Jason Wessely said: “It was great to see such a thrilling tournament and atmosphere in Spain, and to know that thousands of people are continuing to enjoy women’s golf. We’re delighted to see so many new and old fans engaging across all our women’s sport portfolio, and we know that we have a fantastic opportunity both with women’s golf and beyond to tell the stories of the greatest female athletes and sporting events in the world. Our Sky Sports teams look forward to delivering all the live action at the Ryder Cup in Rome this week, via our exclusive coverage and unparalleled commentary team.”

Suzann Pettersen’s’ team delivered one of the most entertaining and undoubtably iconic victories in Solheim Cup history, highlighting an exciting time and future for women’s golf over the coming years. The iconic European and USA rivalry continues this week with the Ryder Cup, live exclusively on Sky Sports and NOW.
