Sky have revealed the official trailer, key art and launch date for the spectacular limited event series, Mary & George, starring Academy Award and BAFTA-winning actor Julianne Moore (Still Alice, Far From Heaven, May December), alongside Nicholas Galitzine (Cinderella, Purple Hearts) and Tony Curran (Mayflies, Your Honour). All seven episodes of the limited event series, inspired by an outrageous true story will launch on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW on 5th March.

In this historical psychodrama, Julianne Moore stars as Mary Villiers, a woman of humble beginnings and formidable ambition who moulded her second son, George (Nicholas Galitzine), to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England (Tony Curran) and become his all-powerful lover.

Always the smartest person in the room, Mary was never able to realise her full potential until she spots an opportunity to take advantage of the King’s voracious appetite for fine wine, fine company and fine men. George, naïvely beautiful and charismatic, is thrust into the spotlight as his mother masterminds their pursuit of the King. Through audacious scheming and seduction, Mary and George claw their way to the centre of Court to become the most powerful family in England. But as George grows in power, his relationship with his mother will be pushed to the very limits. George must prove to himself that he can be defined by more than just his beauty. He must make his mark on history, no matter the consequences.

The ensemble cast includes Nicola Walker (The Split, Unforgotten), Niamh Algar (The Wonder, Malpractice), Trine Dyrholm (The Legacy, Queen Of Hearts), Sean Gilder (Sherwood, Slow Horses), Adrian Rawlins (Living, Chernobyl), Mark O’Halloran (The Miracle Club, The Virtues), Laurie Davidson (Masters of the Air, Guilty Party), Samuel Blenkin (Atlanta, The Witcher: Blood Origin), Jacob McCarthy (SAS: Rogue Heroes, The Tragedy of Macbeth), Tom Victor (Consent), Alice Grant (Anthem at Almeida Theatre), Amelia Gething (Emily, The Amelia Gething Complex), Mirren Mack (The Nest, The Witcher: Blood Origin), Rina Mahoney (Happy Valley, Cobra) and Simon Russell Beale (The Death of Stalin, The Outfit).

Mary & George is produced by Hera Pictures in association with Sky Studios. The series is written by D.C. Moore (Killing Eve, Temple), inspired by Benjamin Woolley’s nonfiction book The King’s Assassin. Liza Marshall is executive producer for Hera Pictures alongside D.C. Moore, Oliver Hermanus and Julianne Moore. Hermanus (Living, Moffie) also helms the series as lead director. Sam Hoyle serves as executive producer for Sky Studios.

Mary & George will air on Sky Atlantic in the UK, Ireland, DACH and Italy. STARZ holds exclusive distribution in the US and Canada. NBCUniversal Global Distribution handles international sales on behalf of Sky Studios.

Mary & George is coming to Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW March 5th.
