San Francisco, CA – The legendary all-female band Ace of Cups is releasing their new track, “Put a Woman in Charge,” today to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. The song premiere is supported by a narrative video honoring the timeline of women’s suffrage as told by a diverse group of female luminaries.

More than 40 inspiring women from all walks of life participated in the video, including politicians, musicians, producers, directors, authors, and teachers. The event was originally scheduled as a summer musical celebration of female pioneers and leaders in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, however the COVID-19 pandemic required that the gathering be reimagined. It is offered now as a virtual message of celebration, solidarity and commitment to continuing the fight for equality and justice. Knowing that a woman of color is running for Vice President lifts our spirits and renews our commitment to work for change.

The Ace of Cups was the first all-female band in the 1960s San Francisco music scene. They opened for Jimi Hendrix in Golden Gate Park and shared the stage with the Jefferson Airplane, The Band, Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead and many others. They never got the opportunity to record their original music at the time due to misogyny within the record industry. Making up for lost time, and due to the enthusiastic support of High Moon Records, they released their eponymous first studio album in 2018 to critical acclaim. Their sophomore album will be out on September 18th, 2020. The band members are now in their 70s but their creative passion remains powerful and inspiring. They took Keb’ Mo’s song, “Put a Woman in Charge,” and turned it into a no-nonsense, hard-driving rocker still infused with Ace of Cups’ signature harmonies. It’s an anthem to support the activism and struggles of women everywhere: “The time has come / We got to turn this world around / Call the mothers / Call the daughters / We need the sisters of mercy now.”

“The milestone of the 19th amendment offers a reminder of the tangible change that can be enacted by coming together in support of human rights and voting rights; a reminder many of us need right now,” said Denise Kaufman. “Put a Woman in Charge” will be released by High Moon Records on August 18th with a music video.
