SUMMER 2021

WOODSTOCK 99: PEACE, LOVE, AND RAGE (Documentary)

Synopsis: The first film in the MUSIC BOX series, directed by Garret Price and executive produced by Bill Simmons, tells the story of Woodstock 99, a three-day music festival promoted to echo unity and counterculture idealism of the original 1969 concert but instead devolved into riots, looting and sexual assaults.

TIG NOTARO: DRAWN (Comedy Special)

Synopsis: The hour-long special blends Notaro’s signature voice and storytelling with a variety of captivating artistic styles as she recounts a hospital bed proposal, a high school talent show gone awry, the repercussions of a dental procedure, unintentionally blowing off fellow comedian Jenny Slate, a road trip with Dolly Parton, and more. Funnier and more animated than you’ve ever seen her before, Notaro’s groundbreaking and fearless comedy comes to life over the course of this visually-innovative special.

Synopsis: Bob Costas returns to HBO with BACK ON THE RECORD WITH BOB COSTAS, which will air four episodes each year and will be driven by in-depth interviews with the biggest names in sports, entertainment and popular culture, and discussions led by Costas that will address today’s most topical sports issues.

Synopsis: HBO Sports and NFL Films are partnering with “America’s Team,” the Dallas Cowboys, for an unfiltered all-access look at what it takes to make it in the National Football League. This season chronicles training camp with the five-time Super Bowl champion NFC East franchise.

Synopsis: An adaptation of Ingmar Bergman’s classic series, Scenes from a Marriage, that re-examines the show’s iconic depiction of love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple.

Synopsis: This six-part series intimately captures the decade-long odyssey of surfing pioneer Garrett McNamara, who, after visiting Nazaré, Portugal in hopes of conquering a 100-foot wave, pushed the sport to ever-greater heights and alongside locals helped transform the small fishing village into the world’s preeminent big-wave surfing destination.

Synopsis: The only weekly news-oriented comedy series to be presented on Sunday night, this series takes a satirical look at news, politics and current events. Taped in New York a few hours before it debuts, the Emmy®-winning show features Oliver’s topical commentary on the previous week’s events, as well as addressing broader issues.

Synopsis: An intricate and magical love story, adapted by Steven Moffat from the much loved novel by Audrey Niffenegger, this series tells the story of Clare and Henry, and a marriage with a problem... time travel.

Synopsis: Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” this “Game of Thrones” prequel co-created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, which is set 300 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” tells the story of House Targaryen.

SEEN & HEARD (Two-Part Documentary)

Synopsis: This two-part documentary explores the history of Black television as seen through the eyes of trailblazers who wrote, produced, created and starred in groundbreaking series of the past and present. The documentary will offer cultural commentary about representation in black storytelling and feature interviews with actors, showrunners, writers, celebrities and other notable influencers as well as verité-driven segments and inventive use of archival material.

THE GILDED AGE (Drama Series)

Synopsis: The American Gilded Age was a period of immense economic change, of huge fortunes made and lost, and the rise of disparity between old money and new. Against this backdrop of change, the story begins in 1882 - introducing young Marian Brook, the orphaned daughter of a Union general, who moves into the New York City home of her thoroughly old money aunts Agnes van Rhijn and Ada Brook. Accompanied by Peggy Scott, an accomplished African-American woman, Marian inadvertently becomes enmeshed in a social war between one of her aunts, a scion of the old money set, and her stupendously rich neighbors, a ruthless railroad tycoon and his ambitious wife, George and Bertha Russell. In this exciting new world that is on the brink of the modern age, will Marian follow the established rules of society, or forge her own path?

LANDSCAPERS (Limited Series)

Synopsis: Inspired by real events, the drama explores the lives of convicted killers Susan and Christopher Edwards and asks how this devoted and mild-mannered couple came to kill Susan’s parents and bury them in the back garden of their Mansfield home, in a crime that remained undiscovered for over a decade. This blackly comic, narratively playful true crime drama is based on extensive research, hours of interviews and direct access to the accused, who have always protested their innocence of murder.

Synopsis: Terrifying and darkly comic THE BABY gleefully deconstructs the “joy of motherhood,” exploring the powerful anxiety of whether or not to have children, questioning who gets to choose “motherhood” and who doesn’t.

Synopsis: Directed with a deeply personal approach by Nanfu Wang (“One Child Nation”), who was born in China and now lives in the United States, the film explores the parallel campaigns of misinformation waged by leadership and the devastating impact on citizens of both countries. With emotional first-hand accounts and startling, on-the-ground footage, the film weaves a revelatory picture of cover-ups and misinformation, while also highlighting the strength and resilience of the healthcare workers, activists and family members who risked everything to communicate the truth.

Synopsis: Created by Sam Jay (Netflix’s “Sam Jay: 3 in the Morning”) and Prentice Penny (HBO’s “Insecure”), the series features a new take on the late-night talk show format and uses afresh lens to plunge into the cultural issues that divide us. Each week, Sam hosts a party at her apartment, where she and her guests explore current topics. Conversations are further expanded upon throughout the episode with additional interviews, sketches, and animation. In an era of discord, Sam sets out to listen, learn, and ask questions to those with different perspectives.

THE NEVERS (Drama Series)

Synopsis: August, 1896. Victorian London is rocked to its foundations by a supernatural event which gives certain people - mostly women - abnormal abilities, from the wondrous to the disturbing. But no matter their particular “turns,” all who belong to this new underclass are in grave danger. It falls to mysterious, quick-fisted widow Amalia True (Laura Donnelly) and brilliant young inventor Penance Adair (Ann Skelly) to protect and shelter these gifted “orphans.” To do so, they will have to face the brutal forces determined to annihilate their kind.

INDUSTRY (Drama Series)

Synopsis: From first-time creators Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, the series follows a group of young graduates competing for a limited number of permanent positions at a leading international investment bank in London. INDUSTRY gives an insider's view of the blackbox of “high finance” through the eyes of an outsider, Harper Stern (Herrold), a talented young woman from upstate New York. Following a group of young grads fueled by ambition, youth, romance and drugs, the series examines issues of gender, race, class, and privilege in the workplace as these impressionable young minds begin to forge their identities within the pressure cooker environment and sensory blitz of Pierpoint & Co's trading floor, where meritocracy is promised but hierarchy is king.

HIS DARK MATERIALS (Drama Series)

Synopsis: Adapting Philip Pullman’s award-winning trilogy of the same name, which is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction, HIS DARK MATERIALS follows Lyra (Dafne Keen), a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Season two began as Lyra, distraught over the death of her best friend, embarks upon a journey in a strange and mysterious abandoned city. There she meets Will (Amir Wilson), a boy from our world who is also running from a troubled past. Lyra and Will learn their destinies are tied to reuniting Will with his father but find their path is constantly thwarted as a war begins to brew around them. Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter (Ruth Wilson) searches for Lyra, determined to bring her home by any means necessary.

Synopsis: The HBO documentary series THE VOW will continue with a second installment of episodes, to air in 2021. CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM (Comedy Series)

Synopsis: Originally debuting on HBO in 2001 and presenting 100 episodes to date, the series stars “Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David as an over-the-top version of himself in an unsparing but tongue-in-cheek depiction of his fictionalized life. The comedy series continues to prove how seemingly trivial details of one's day-to-day life – a cold cup of coffee, a stained shirt, a missing toothbrush – can precipitate a chain of misfortune to hilarious effect.

Synopsis: This dark comedy stars Emmy® winner Bill Hader in the title role. Synopsis: This Emmy-nominated unscripted series recruits local residents across small-town America to participate in a one-night-only drag show. In each episode, renowned drag queens Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara and Shangela Laquifa Wadley visit a different small town to inspire and teach their own “drag daughters” to step outside their comfort zone for a night of no-holds-barred, full-on drag.

GENTLEMAN JACK (Drama Series)

Synopsis: From Sally Wainwright, this series tells a remarkable and unlikely love story, set in the complex, changing world of 1832 Halifax, the cradle of the industrial revolution.
