“Time in New England took me away…o long rocky beaches, and you by the bay.
We started a story whose end must now wait….And tell me when will our eyes meet? When can I touch you? When will this strong yearning end?….And when will I hold you again?”…Randy Edelman

While waiting for his story of “A Weekend in New England” to end on the long rocky beaches by the bay, composer Randy Edelman’s contribution to the music of New England has come full circle via his induction into “The New England Music Hall of Fame.”

Most love songs were inspired, not by love but rather by loneliness and regretfulness. Randy Edelman has amassed a revelation of the most beautiful love songs ever written. His ethereal lyrics, almost too perfect for this world, can be found in his songs including: “If Love Is Real” (recorded by Olivia Newton-John), “You” (recorded by The Carpenters), “The Laughter and Tears” (recorded by Dionne Warwick) “Isn’t It A Shame” (recorded by Patti LaBelle and hip-hop superstar Nelly) and others. However, “A Weekend In New England” (recorded by Barry Manilow) is a universal truth which opens your heart and paints a picture for Cupid of the dream of small villages, stone walls, covered bridges, country stores and rocky shores.

Aside from “A Weekend In New England” Edelman also wrote the soundtrack to “Gettysburg” a remarkable film about the Battle of Gettysburg in the American Civil War. The 1993 film was directed by Ronald F. Maxwell and starred Martin Sheen, Tom Berenger, and Jeff Daniels, and was produced by Turner Pictures. In a review of the music by Sputnik Music it was proclaimed “Edelman utilizes his orchestra, to help the viewer, and the listener, to feel how heavy all the life lost truly was. Excellently arranged, and composed, and just bleeding drama and sadness, and a sense of fate, the score is one of the best soundtracks I’ve ever heard. It transcends its role of support for the movie and becomes, like the movie, about the battle itself.”

Randy’s contribution to music in a much wider sense spans the globe with over 100 motion picture soundtracks including “My Cousin Vinny”, “Ghostbusters ll”, “While You Were Sleeping”, “Dragonheart”, “XXX”, “The Mask”, “The Bruce Lee Story”, “Billy Madison”, and “Last of the Mohicans” (which earned him a Golden Globe nomination).

The New England Music Hall of Fame was created to unite, educate, influence, promote and preserve the integrity of New England’s music, and the people who represent it. They achieve their mission, as well as creating music experiences through awarding talented musicians, and other positive contributors with the recognition they so greatly deserve. Some of this year’s inductees also include Suzi Quatro, Sib Hashian (former drummer of the band Boston), Brad Delp (also from the band Boston), Lizzie Borden & The Axes, Sister Funk, Little Richard, Christine McVie, and others. Co-Founders include Angel Orsini, Christopher Annino, and Kadrolsha Ona Carole.
