His live performance is more than a musical journey but rather a phenomenon. Tony has been building the show since the lockdown and what he has created is a sonic and visual masterpiece. As a songwriter Tony stays as close to the edge as he can without going over it. Out on the ledge you can see all kinds of things you cannot see from the center. Big, I’ve dreamed of things that people on the edge see first. His music is a mirror, reflecting every man’s virtue and vice showing up with unusual clarity. His music has always been a place where both grief and grace can live, and where rage can be explored and examined, not simply exploited. In his own words from a recent interview in Metal Talk: “I wanted to have a sense of a narrative arc running through it, without words, without a specific story. But it is just an emotional sense that we’re on a journey, and it starts here, and it ends here, and stuff happens in between. The three themes, with just what was happening all around us, that was a lot to write about. It was about my mom and my relationship with my mom and dealing with her dementia and songs for her and about my life. I am doing now what I wanted to do at 13. This theatrical, big show with all these very, not progressive. … it’s not really a Prog project, although it has some Prog elements to it.
