Harvey Brownstone, host of the popular celebrity talk show “Harvey Brownstone Interviews”, has had a most distinguished career. He was the first openly gay judge in Canada, the first sitting judge to write a best-selling book “Tug of War: A Judge’s Verdict on Separation, Custody Battles and the Bitter Realities of Family Court”, the first sitting judge to host a prime time TV show “Family Matters with Justice Harvey Brownstone”, and the first sitting judge to launch an online celebrity interview program on YouTube. When the show became a global sensation, he retired from the judiciary at the end of 2021.

In 2016 he received the "Justice Thomas Cromwell Distinguished Public Service Award" from his alma mater, Queen’s University Faculty of Law, for his outstanding contributions to the justice system, and for enhancing access to justice and equality for all by making himself publicly available to officiate at same-sex weddings for gay and lesbian couples who flocked to Canada from all parts of the world to get married, at a time when same-sex marriage was not available anywhere else.

And now, by reason of the phenomenal success of “Harvey Brownstone Interviews”, which is currently ranked at #12 on the Hollywood 411 List of the Top Talk Shows in the World, Harvey has become the first alumnus of Queen’s University to receive a second Distinguished Alumni Award. He has been named this year’s recipient of the J.A. Corry Distinguished Alumni Award, which recognizes exceptional contributions by Queen’s Law alumni outside of the traditional practice of law.

In making the announcement, Dean Colleen Flood of Queen’s Faculty of Law stated, “Harvey Brownstone’s exceptional career—as a lawyer, judge, best-selling author, and as a world-renowned talk show host—has reflected extraordinarily on the integrity, diversity and accessibility of the Canadian justice system. Throughout his career, he has continued to bring awareness to issues such as bullying, domestic violence, discrimination in all its forms, and social injustices wherever they exist.”

The award is named after Alec Corry, a distinguished political scientist and founding member of the Queen’s Faculty of Law, whose legacy and contributions to the university and the legal profession are inspiring and enduring.

Harvey Brownstone is to be presented with this award at a ceremony to be held in Toronto on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Since its launch in February 2021, “Harvey Brownstone Interviews” has released over 375 interviews featuring dozens of legendary stars. The show has a worldwide online viewership exceeding 5 million viewers, and is also televised on the XPTV1 network in the UK, with a weekly audience exceeding 3 million viewers. In January 2024, Harvey Brownstone was featured on the Worldwide Entertainment News list of the celebrities to watch in 2024. In February 2024, Daily Hollywood News called Harvey Brownstone Interviews "one of the most epic and popular television extravaganzas to have risen in a long time", and described Brownstone as "a superstar almost overnight". And most recently, in May 2024, Variety Entertainment News included "Harvey Brownstone Interviews" on its list of the "Best Picks of Summer 2024.
