Sean at the Hotel- I Don’t Want To Listen

Off the back of two successful EP’s forged over lockdown, Liverpool artist Sean at the Hotel returns with his new single ‘I Don’t Want To Listen’ ahead of studio album I'm Standing in Front of You Saying "Yes!"

The story follows an old man on his deathbed. Next to him is the bedside table where his late wife used to keep the Telephone, which is now a Globe. Amidst the hallucinations, his belief is that all the countries he will never visit are now trying to phone him.

The song transcends this seamlessly via off kilter bars, and primary instrumental in the form of a home made circuit bent toy keyboard..

The result is a restless, weird energy caught within a surreal world of disorientation fused together with delightful sugar-esq catchy indie pop music.

Sean said:

“I’ve always been a bit of a daydreamer, and so the new album has a somewhat loose theme. All the songs cover the big topics of love, death, loneliness and pleasure, but either written as an imagined reality, or from the point of view of something non-human.”

The video also captures this ethic perfectly, welcoming the listener into the bizarre mindset, a bewildering travel expedition alongside the Telephone, and….a Globe.

I Don’t Want To Listen is the lead single from debut album I'm Standing in Front of You Saying "Yes!” out Friday 5th May.

Sean at the Hotel- I'm Standing in Front of You Saying "Yes!"

Liverpool singer, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist Sean at the Hotel returns for 2023 with his debut studio album- I'm Standing in Front of You Saying "Yes!"
Sean’s modus operandi is to never be boring musically, which is easier said than done. However, his rare writing style displays an array of surprises, keeping the listener guessing constantly.
Drawing influences from 2000’s pop music avant garde style, perfectly entwined with a sugary bubblegum approach, offering a fresh pop music genre amidst a world of curious wonder.

The album perfectly combines contemporary catchy melodies, with an off-kilter mix of avant-pop, art-rock, and musical theatre. With some art-pop/baroque-pop/psychedelia thrown in there as well, nothing is ever quite what it seems.

This, alongside abstract key changes and outlandish time signatures, has spawned a project that is truly, and whole heartedly unique.

Alongside Sean’s sui generis musical style, the absurd themes around the album only pull in the listener even further…

Album synopsis on track selection:

I Want to Feel like this All the Time- a seductive song but from the point of view of a rat, whose brain is being experimented on to simulate pleasure.

ITV Colour Strike- set from the point of view of a heartbroken man, who feels like a TV character during the 1970’s industrial action at ITV, that caused programmes of the time to be filmed in black and white.

And I’ve Realised we’re not Real- is about a couple who fall in love, only to realise they’re actually fictional characters in a ropey soap opera. This get’s discovered when they see bits of the set wobbling and a boom mic over their heads.

I Call it Love- follows the grim reaper offering his perspective on relationships, having been responsible for taking people away from their loved ones.

I’m the Montparnasse Tower- the story of a French skyscraper feeling awkward about how he stands out from his more elegant surroundings, and imagines that he is a person alone at a birthday party.

Sean at the Hotel is here to stay, and it’s glorious!
