As 2021 drew to a close, the Texas-based spiritual trailblazer, When Mountains Speak, unleashed their live album, From Beyond Comes Within, which unravels as an abstract infusion of Eastern and Western culture.

For 1 hour and 52 blissful minutes, the listener is taken on a sonic exploration, led by guitar rhythms and distorted by electronic effects. Each soundscape pulls hard at deep spiritual roots and was born through the solo artist’s curiosity for the unknown.

The raw and organic expression in the album is a form of permission to music fans that are open to the same freedom that When Mountains Speak found in their sound. Amidst the transcendent tones, the harsher and reverberant textures create captivating contrasts that you can’t help feel the gravity of.

When Mountains Speak said:

“I’ve spent much of the last 25 years playing, recording and performing solo mandolin— for personal, emotional and spiritual reasons. When I became aware of the New Standard Tuning for guitar, this method of approaching this instrument opened a door of expression I didn’t know existed.

Sure, I toyed with the guitar in the 1980s, learning the rock tunes of that time. After rediscovering the variety of sonic possibilities and using my vast experiential exposure to all forms of music, When Mountains Speak was born.

It’s a purposeful departure from the generic pop song; it seeks to take the listener on a mindful spiritual and sonically textured journey. We all need a break from the craziness life brings, and this album can assist in that departure.”

Amelia Vandergast at A&R Factory said:

“Through the process of hyper-capitalising music, many artists have lost their way in an ego-centric frenzy. They only need to follow When Mountains Speak to see the light again. Their latest album is a rare opportunity to awaken our spiritual senses and become attuned with our rhythmic pulses as they find synergy with the spacey, sonic and tribal textures.”
