Gated Estates penned an agitated art-rock memorandum in their arresting debut single, A Letter

In a small studio nestled in the Brecon Beacons, agitated art-rock was pioneered by the up-and-coming artist Gated Estates. The debut single, A Letter, is the first taste of enlightened ingenuity that amalgamates rock, electronica, and experimental sound design.

The melodic indie rock structures find space for improvised interjections, which elevate the soundscape to Avant-Garde heights, while never compromising on emotional accessibility.

A Letter is a navigation of the deepest relationships we all hold, the relationships with our inner child, who shapes the future around us. Nurturing yet glitchy and chaotic, the compelling memorandum pens a definitive portrait of what it means to be human.

The self-recorded and mixed single features Shane Dixon (Nick Parker, Ginger Wildheart, The Sinners), Rose Linn-Pearl (Peiriant), Jonathan Morgan (OCTO-PI),) Mastered at Blank Studios by Sam Grant (Pigs x7, Richard Dawson, Rubber Oh).

About

The Gated Estates project was born from the impulse to return to conventional songwriting and production following years of working as an experimental musician, improviser, and sound installation artist.

I play and produce music in the acclaimed Welsh experimental duo, Peiriant with Rose Linn-Pearl. We have performed live sessions for Radio 3’s experimental show, Late Junction, and performed at Glastonbury, Nozstock Festival, Lakefest, How The Light Gets In and The Big Chill.
With Gated Estates, I sonically wanted to explore melodic songwriting and a rock sound ethos with more experimental approaches to sound designs. Using analog synths, electronic beats and samples to emulate the artists I love, The Flaming Lips, Radiohead, Bjork, Super Furry Animals and Bright Eyes.

The moniker is conceptual, reflecting the lyrical explorations of constructs of division; I feel this is paramount to the well-being of the human condition. We seem obsessed with creating barriers in our cultures, societies, and lives. Through storytelling, I illuminate notions and ideas surrounding divisive interventions in the hope we start to collectively look upon them objectively and witness them for the unnecessary folly they are.

My forthcoming debut album tries to generate a storyline thread throughout the ten tracks as it moves from the confines of an imprisoned mind to some iteration of eventual freedom. Before my 2023 album releases, I will release my single, Fiction, in the new year, followed by the single, Shitshow.
