BBC Radio 5 Live reveals an expanded football offering for the 22/23 season

Less than two weeks ahead of the new Premier League season, BBC Radio 5 Live can reveal a 2022-2023 football broadcasting offering unlike any other

BBC Radio 5 Live sign Troy Deeney, Jermain Defoe, Chris Kamara and Ben Shephard for new season.

They join an unrivalled line-up of presenters, pundits and commentators across our football coverage and content, with names such as Mark Chapman, Kelly Cates, Steve Crossman, Darren Fletcher, Emma Saunders, Chris Sutton, Robbie Savage, Micah Richards, Izzy Christiansen, Nedum Onuoha, Alan Shearer, John Murray, Ian Dennis, Alistair Bruce-Ball, Vicki Sparks and many more.

Live match coverage includes the addition of Saturday’s 5.30pm Premier League kick off, with more Premier League commentaries than any other UK radio broadcaster.

Presenters for the new season include Mark Chapman, Kelly Cates, Steve Crossman, Darren Fletcher and Emma Saunders.

Our pundit roster expands with Troy Deeney joining the likes of Chris Sutton, Robbie Savage, Micah Richards, Izzy Christiansen and many more.

New podcasts from Jermain Defoe, Chris Kamara and Ben Shephard join favourites like Football Daily, 72+, EuroLeagues and the Footballer’s Football podcast with Michail Antonio and Callum Wilson.

Less than two weeks ahead of the new Premier League season, BBC Radio 5 Live can reveal a 2022-2023 football broadcasting offering unlike any other.

As well an expanded offering for live Premier League football on weekends, 5 Live builds on 2021-2022 with huge additions to both the podcast and presenter roster for the new season.

As previously announced, BBC Radio 5 Live has secured rights to air the following live Premier League games each week:

Saturday - 3pm [1st pick]
Saturday - 5.30pm
Sunday - 2pm [5 Live can also air other simultaneous 2pm PL kick-offs on 5 Sports Extra or via the BBC Sport website]
Sunday - 4.30pm
5 Live also maintains rights to 2/4 midweek Premier League rounds.

Every Saturday from 12pm, Mark Chapman will present build-up to the day’s football and the fastest around the grounds goal service will accompany live coverage of each 3pm kick-off. Sports Report, and its beloved classic theme tune, will continue to air on Saturdays from 5pm, but will now finish prior to the 5.30pm live Premier League kick-off.

On Sundays, Steve Crossman will continue to present Premier League Sunday from 12pm, with football discussion, interviews and build-up to multiple 2pm kick-offs, as well as the 4.30pm game.

Our live commentary team will be led by correspondent John Murray. He is joined by the likes of Ian Dennis, Alistair Bruce-Ball, Vicki Sparks, Pien Meulensteen and Conor McNamara. Pundits include Chris Sutton, Alan Shearer, Izzy Christiansen, Dion Dublin, Pat Nevin, Clinton Morrison, Rob Green and Glenn Murray.

5 Live will also continue to air live match coverage from a plethora of other club and international football competitions, including the Champions League, WSL, Europa League, Scottish Premiership, Men’s and Women’s FA Cup, League Cup, plus men and women’s international football, including the Qatar World Cup this winter.

Additional Football Programming:

The Monday Night Club, with Mark Chapman, Micah Richards, Chris Sutton and Rory Smith, returns on Monday 8th August. The popular Monday night programme will be visualised more regularly this season on BBC iPlayer.

The Friday Football Social, presented by Darren Fletcher and the rest of the Friday Football Social family, will take a weekly look at the football landscape and look ahead to the weekend’s action.

Robbie Savage and Chris Sutton are reunited on 606, taking fan calls and reacting to the latest results and developments within football. Alongside 606 is BBC Radio 5 Live’s home of fantasy football discussion, Fantasy 606. Hosted by Ali Bruce-Ball, Chris Sutton and Statman Dave, together they’ll talk FPL squads, tips and tables as they compete against each other in 5 Live’s very own FPL league.

Presenters across our daily football offering include Mark Chapman, Kelly Cates, Steve Crossman, Troy Deeney, Emma Saunders and Darren Fletcher.

Podcasts:

Expanding upon an already unrivalled offering, 5 Live will add new football titles to our podcast roster for the new season.

Premier League legend Jermain Defoe will join the BBC for a brand new fly-on-the-wall podcast later this year. Jermain Defoe: Outside The Box will follow the ex-England striker in his quest to become a manager after his retirement from professional football. More details will be announced soon.

Chris Kamara and Ben Shephard also join 5 Live to present Unbelievable, a new BBC Sounds podcast starting August 4th. The heavyweight football broadcasting duo will interview huge names from the footballing world. An additional Chris Kamara podcast short will be announced later this year.

Elsewhere, current Premier League strikers Callum Wilson and Michail Antonio return for a new series of the Footballer’s Football Podcast. Callum and Michail will continue to give fans a player’s point of view on the beautiful game with weekly episodes returning soon to BBC Sounds.

The ever-present Football Daily will return from August 1st, bringing fans daily football news, discussion, interviews and analysis, plus a chance to catch-up on previous evening’s airings of on-air programmes like The Monday Night Club and Friday Football Social. Also included in the Football Daily offering is Euro Leagues with Steve Crossman (and a mix of Guillem Balague, Julian Laurens, James Horncastle, Kristof Terreur, Raphael Honigstein and Mina Rzouki) and 72+ with Aaron Paul, for all the latest news and discussion from the EFL.

New to 5 Live, and available every weekday in August on BBC Sounds, Transfer Gossip Daily will bring fans all the latest transfer gossip as it happens.
