Jamz Supernova On 6 will be jam-packed with an uplifting array of alternative RnB, hip-hop, broken beat, global club sounds and leftfield electronica, supporting new music from the UK and further afield, whilst playing heritage artists that have come before.

Currently the cover star of DJ mag, Jamz has graced festival stages at Sónar, Parklife, Detonate, Bestival and Lovebox. The Blessed Madonna

The Blessed Madonna will broadcast from 9pm-midnight on Saturdays. Born in Kentucky, USA, The Blessed Madonna started out with a mission statement to challenge the status quo in dance music, and has since transformed herself from hometown hero into one of the most sought after and respected electronic artists in the world. She has been a resident DJ at Chicago’s legendary electronic music venue, Smart Bar, alongside the Godfather of House himself, Frankie Knuckles, has produced for artists including Robyn and Georgia and most recently, remixed Dua Lipa’s album Future Nostalgia. She has performed at festivals including Coachella and Glastonbury and is set to release her own, highly anticipated, debut album in 2022. On the BBC, The Blessed Madonna has presented Radio 1’s Residency and has deputised for Danny Howard and Pete Tong on the network. She has also previously stood in for Gilles Peterson on 6 Music.

The Blessed Madonna will continue to enhance the Saturday night mood with her new 6 Music show, covering an eclectic range of music choices, from funk, disco, house, techno and everything in between. She’ll play new releases and also take a deep dive into the history of a particular scene, genre, artist, country or place, recreating magical dance floor moments along the way. Also featuring in the show will be mixes and interviews from some of most forward-thinking names in dance music, as well as legends of the scene.

The Blessed Madonna says: “Joining BBC 6 Music is the fulfilment of a lifelong journey that began in a humble college radio station. I am not unique in saying that the presenters on BBC radio forged my conception of what a DJ should be, or that I wanted to be Mary Anne Hobbs when I grew up, but I am most grateful to be here now. There could be no greater honour than to stand amongst the ranks of these champions and tell my part of the story of music.”

St. Vincent

Following on from Loyle Carner, Arlo Parks and Phoebe Bridgers, and ahead of the release of her seventh studio album Daddy’s Home, St. Vincent will be 6 Music’s next Artist in Residence. 6 Music’s Artist In Residence is a journey into the musical soul of an artist, with each programme based around a different theme or mood.

In six episodes, beginning on Wednesday 14 April (midnight-1am), Annie Clark aka St. Vincent will be playing records that have informed specific periods of her life. She’ll share the music she loved when she was 13 years old, including the likes of Nirvana, Bjork, Seal and Warren G, the tracks that reminds her of circles, squares and triangles and the tunes she would actually dance to at a party.

St. Vincent says: “6 Music has helped me share my music with the world since my first session with them back in 2007, so I’m happy to share some of my favorites and influences with the 6 Music audience that’s supported me all these years. It’s an honor and a thrill to be 6 Music’s Artist in Residence. I’m excited to share everything from my 13 year old self’s playlist to the music you might be surprised to know I like, to the jams that make me want to break the speed limit… I hope 6 Music listeners will enjoy the ride."

Later in the spring, Nemone’s Journeys In Sound returns for three weekly episodes on Sundays, from 2 May (1pm-2pm). In this series, Nemone combines her roles of 6 Music DJ and integrative psychotherapist, exploring how music affects people. Each week, she welcomes a different guest to discuss their personal relationship to music and how it has sound-tracked the ups and downs of their lives. Guests will share their stories with Nemone, accompanied by tracks that are meaningful to them, and discuss how they have used music to express their own emotions.

Nemone says: “In this series, I explore how our own personal journeys are soundtracked by music; how - and why - we find tribes to belong to through music, in our teenage years and beyond, and what our personal relationship with music means for the way in which we form relationships with others. This programme is a space to immerse ourselves in and be inspired by other people’s journeys in sound.”

6 Music will also mark Mental Health Awareness week in May with One For The Heads – a selection of programming on the theme of wellbeing, which will be broadcast between Monday 10th and ‘Slow Sunday’ 16th May, where listeners can kick back for the day by listening to a day of chilled out music.

Current programming highlights on BBC Radio 6 Music also includes Lose Yourself With… (Sundays, 12am-2am).

The absence of international travel has left many dreaming of the outside world. Lose Yourself With… a 12-part weekly series, which began on Sunday 7 March, offers two hours of music to whisk listeners away from their own physical environment. Each week, one of three rotating hosts, American singer-songwriter Caroline Polachek, DJ Honey Dijon and musician and DJ Nabihah Iqbal, carry listeners on a virtual journey towards a new place. This journey is accompanied by a mix, curated by the host, of familiar music, as well as tracks that hint towards the final destination.

In the second hour of the show, hosts introduce another DJ or musician, who are the listeners’ local guide at this destination, taking them on a tour around the place they know and love and providing a selection of their favourite music.

In the first episode, (7 March), the host was Caroline Polachek introducing DJ and producer Murlo to guide listeners around his hometown of Seoul. Last weekend, (14 March), Nabihah Iqbal took the musical wheel, bringing listeners to Houston Texas, with American musical trio Khruangbin as their guides.

This weekend, listeners’ host is Honey Dijon, who, following an hour of her own mix, brings listeners to New York, and places them in the hands of their guide to the city, DJ Eli Escobar. Guides to feature later in the series include Italian musician Maria Chiara Argiró, multi-disciplinary artist Alewya, Poppy Ajudha, who is also performing as part of this year’s 6 Music Festival and DJ and producer, Natasha Diggs.
