BMG has announced the launch of its first podcast in Germany in cooperation with Audio Alliance, called The Iconic Song. The podcast illuminates the stories behind and around some of the most iconic songs of our time. The first season of The Iconic Song digs deeper into the story of Scorpions’ 1991 worldwide hit anthem ‘Wind Of Change’, published by BMG. The first of four episodes will be available on AUDIO NOW as of today, November 3, 2020.

The Iconic Song series tells the stories behind some of the most influential songs in popular music. Talking to the performers, the fans and contemporary witnesses, prominent hosts with their own memories of the track follow the traces of these iconic songs, trying to find out why they mean so much to so many people.

Hosted by MTV legend Steve Blame, the first season of The Iconic Song retraces the roots of ‘Wind Of Change’. The podcast traces the origins of the legendary hit, recalling its influence on society, culture, politics and not least how it still has an impact in today’s world.

Blame chats with Scorpions’ Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs, uncovering revealing insights into ‘Wind Of Change’, the writing and recording process as well as the experience of performing it live. Guests including musical companions Gorki Park and journalist Peter Kloeppel contribute their views on the song, setting it in its cultural and political context.

Klaus Meine, Scorpions, said “’Wind of Change' not only is very meaningful for us as a band, an incredible number of people associate a lot with our song. It was a great pleasure to tell our own stories about it in this podcast and to get to know the stories of other people that the song has accompanied.”

Said Mirijam Trunk, Managing Director Audio Alliance, “I am very happy that this joint project with BMG adds a new extraordinary color to our podcast portfolio and tells the story of extraordinary songs in a very special way. BMG’s artist clients and songs combined with Alliance's audio expertise is an unbeatable combination, and I look forward to this and many other joint projects.”

Said Feline Moje, BMG Director Recorded Music GSA, “Some of the most iconic songs in popular music are a part of BMG’s catalogue. This new podcast format that has been developed with lots of dedication in cooperation with Audio Alliance is a great way to recall together why they mean so much to so many – not least in difficult times like these.”

Upcoming episodes of the new podcast will be released every Tuesday.

‘Wind Of Change’ will be re-released by BMG as an exclusive box set in the wake of the 30th anniversary of the German Unification Day and 30 years after the release of Scorpions’ album Crazy World (1990) including the world hit. The box set is dedicated to the history of the rock ballad and will be released on November 27, 2020.
