Legendary British singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading has scored her highest-charting album in 38 years with Consequences, her 20th studio album.

The album, released by BMG which also publishes her songs, is one of her most intimate and direct albums yet, and has entered the Official UK Albums Chart at 10, some 45 years after her breakthrough hit ‘Love And Affection’.

Armatrading - the first UK female singer/songwriter to enjoy international success with songs she wrote and performed herself - has become one of the best-loved artists in the UK music business.

Recently awarded a CBE by the Queen, she is a three-time Grammy Award nominee and was acclaimed by the Ivor Novello Awards for Outstanding Contemporary Song Collection. She was the first female British artist to debut at #1 in the Billboard Blues chart, where she stayed for 12 weeks and was the first-ever female UK artist to be nominated for a Grammy in the blues category.

Alistair Norbury, BMG President Repertoire & Marketing, UK, said, “It is a genuine honor for BMG to be Joan’s music publisher and record label. To score her best chart position in 30 years at this stage is a sign of the increasing recognition of her as a unique talent in British music.”

On July 31, Joan Armatrading will stream a specially performed live concert to her fans across the world, six years after she decided to call quits on long-haul touring. The show will not only feature new material but also some of the best known and loved songs from her illustrious 50+ year career.
