German musician, composer, and producer Nils Frahm has released his new double album Old Friends New Friends via Leiter/BMG, a collection of 23 mostly unreleased solo piano tracks recorded between 2009 and 2021.

It's Frahm’s first release with BMG since he and his long-time manager Felix Grimm signed an exclusive global label deal for their production company Leiter in 2020.

Old Friends New Friends was pieced together during the pandemic as Frahm used the time to arrange his archives, conscious of the sheer number of recordings he’d accumulated. Having selected his favourites, he realised how, when he listened to them together, they offered “a different spectrum of freedom" for him.

The album offers “an anatomy of all my ways of thinking musically and playing,” added Frahm.

Maximilian Kolb, EVP Repertoire & Marketing Continental Europe, said: “Nils’s collection of mostly unreleased songs is truly incredible, not just because of the beautiful compositions, but because of its clear direction. It’s one of the most inspiring and personal albums of the year. We’re thrilled to work with Nils and his team at Leiter to take it into the world.”

Nils Frahm is one of the most renowned artists in the sphere between classical and electronic music. The Berlin-based pianist is known for his unconventional approach to the age-old instrument. His critically acclaimed and distinctive compositions have found a large following all over the world. Frahm has played a string of sold-out live shows at the Barbican Center in London, the Philharmonie de Paris, Funkhaus Berlin, as well as at music festivals including Dimensions in Croatia, Primavera Sound in Barcelona, and the Montreux Jazz Festival.
