US: Anthony Hamilton wins Outstanding Male Artist at NAACP Image Awards

Among BMG’s nine artist and songwriter nominations for the 2022 NAACP Image Awards, Anthony Hamilton was awarded Outstanding Male Artist for his latest album Love Is The New Black, released via BMG in September 2021.

Honoring the achievements by people of color in culture and entertainment, the 2022 NAACP Image Awards were held over the course of the week of 21 February, via five virtual ceremonies, leading up to the live telecast held on 26 February.

Academy and Grammy award-winning BMG songwriter D’Mile was the leading BMG nominee accounting for five nominations across multiple categories including Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Traditional); Outstanding Album; Outstanding Music Video Visual/Album; Outstanding Soul/R&B Song; and Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation Album.

Additional nominees included Jimmie Allen for Outstanding New Artist for his BBR Music Group release Bettie James Gold Edition, and a second nomination for Anthony Hamilton for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Traditional) for his single ‘Superstar’ featuring Jennifer Hudson.

Ledisi was nominated for Outstanding Jazz Album for Ledisi Sings Nina, while BMG songwriter D’Mile contributed to Silk Sonic’s nominations for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Traditional) for ‘Leave The Door Open’, Outstanding Music Video Visual/Album for An Evening With Silk Sonic, and Outstanding Soul/R&B Song for ‘Leave The Door Open’. In addition, D’Mile’s co-write for Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation Album, from the nominated Judas and the Black Messiah was recently awarded the Academy Award for Best Original Song for ‘Fight For You’.
