Newly-posted official figures show that BMG in the UK had a lower average gender pay gap in the past year than any of its major competitors.

BMG also delivered the highest percentage of women receiving a bonus.

UK equal opportunities legislation requires that data on salaries by gender is made available by all companies with more than 250 employees. The new numbers represent the first time BMG has crossed that threshold in the UK and therefore the first time it has been obliged to reveal the data.

It shows that on average there is a 26% difference in average hourly pay at BMG between men and women, whereas at other major companies the gap is up to 36.7%.

The numbers are averages across all men and all women at the company.

Meanwhile, 87.4% of women at BMG in the UK received a bonus last year, compared with just 81% at one major company.

Despite the relative success of BMG in driving down its gender pay gap, compared with the market, the company’s Chief Human Resources Officer Nikola Holle-Spiegel, who is currently based in BMG’s London office, said she is not satisfied.

“It would be wrong to be triumphal or complacent about these numbers,” she said. “This is a good start, but there is still a long way to go. We cannot eradicate historical differences in remuneration at a stroke. What we need to do is to deliver consistent year-on-year improvement.”
