Bang Bang Romeo are a rock band four-piece from Doncaster, United Kingdom who were given the opportunity to perform a live acoustic set to be broadcast on Live Nation’s Facebook live channels worldwide across the company’s territories.

Formed in 2010, Bang Bang Romeo consists of Anastasia ‘Stars’ Walker (vocals), Richard Gartland (drummer), Ross Cameron (guitarist) and Richard Cook (bass and keyboards).

Anastasia began performing at 7 when she sang Abba’s ‘Dancing Queen’ at the local pub’s karaoke night and then she performed her first gig on her own aged 14 at The Vintage Rockbar in Doncaster.

This showcase however was an acoustic affair with Ross Cameron swapping an electric guitar for an acoustic, Richard Gartland sitting on a cajon and Richard Cook sitting out for this set. Opening with ‘Shame On You’, ‘Anastasia wore a black t-shirt emblazoned with the iconic Prince logo and a black leather jacket which allowed her bright red hair to pop. The song’s catchy chorus hooks you in quickly and proved to be a strong first number.

‘Bag Of Bones’ features a fluid bluesy guitar tone from Cameron that helps frame the lush soulful lead vocal from ‘Stars’, and I’m reminded of American blues rock vocalist Beth Hart, as both have such emotive delivery.

Next up we had ‘Chemical’ which was well-received when they opened four pop superstar P!nk on her UK and European Stadium tour which included two sold-out nights at the world-famous Wembley Stadium in London, United Kingdom. Interestingly, it sounds like an unreleased track by Liverpudlian X-Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson to my ears IMHO. It does have a real anthemic vibe.

“Thank you to Live Nation for organising this. This is the first time we have played together in four months! We get to gig again!” Anastasia exclaimed. She has a real down to earth personality and this is one of the key reasons why this livestream was so inviting.

Closing the performance with their latest single ‘Stone Cold Superstar’ they had to change the heavy rock sound on this occasion slightly to fit the stripped-back set, but the acoustic Spanish guitar tone adds something fresh to the song, whilst still allowing it to keep its fieriness.

The set is soon over and it feels like twenty minutes flew by, but from looking at the Live Nation UK Facebook page the comments section was lit up with fire emojis and positive feedback. Sky News presenter Stephen Dixon even commented “Ohhhh Yes @BangBangRomeo” on his own Twitter account!

In conclusion, this virtual showcase allowed Bang Bang Romeo to not only say hello to their current fanbase but to potentially increase it on a global-scale at a time when the live music gig experience is not available. It was the perfect taster for future live performances and here is hoping that we will be able to see this outfit back in the live arena sooner rather than later.
