Pushpin releases ‘Apples’OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASENEWS PROVIDED BY Goryl Records Pushpin presents ‘Apples’, their second single of 2021. Pushpin’s first release ‘Folds’ was released to critical acclaim in January, with plays on BBC Radio 6 Music and the Introducing Mixtape. In ‘Apples’, Pushpin take their “left-field pop chops” (Hard of Hearing) on a seaside ghostbusting mission, fusing the oblique soundworlds of MGMT, Vampire Weekend and Squid. In this quirky rumination about returning to a past environment which now feels cold and unfamiliar, a rustic acoustic guitar is contrasted against an angular bass and agitated drum patter in a combination that shouldn’t work, but does. Pushpin are a four-piece band based in South London. Inspired by acts from Squid to Fiona Apple and MGMT, their sound combines influences from post-punk, synth-led psychedelia and chamber pop.
