'It’s So Hard To Make Friends' is an album of songs written by British Songwriter Josh Herring after moving to Copenhagen in 2018. The songs are about moving – to a new country, where you try to make new friends, whilst remembering the old ones, and the family, and lovers you left behind. Together they explore different moods and attitudes surrounding friendship and relationships, often in an amusingly direct way.

Josh has a background in community music; he worked with choirs and community groups who sang for joy and togetherness, using voices and instruments to unite. He encountered the power and happiness that music can give people, which is a hard impression to leave behind. The sound of the album is Josh’s own community, which is made up of musicians from different backgrounds – from jazz and contemporary improvisation to rock and folk, and a chorus of 15 amateur Danish singers. The recording was performed together as much as possible with no click, and found percussion which included the beer bottles they drank the night before. The resulting sound is a ramshackle, rattling box of loose screws; an introvert singing songs about friendship in the toolshed.

The album was recorded by Sam Grant in December 2019 at Blank Studios in Newcastle, UK. Sam is the producer for Richard Dawson and his own band, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs.
