Eora-based artist ElementxL releases his new single ‘NOSEBLEED’, an exploration of overcoming self-doubt and criticism. The release comes after the young artist went through a transformative experience, being diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease myositis which left him unable to play guitar or even walk at the time.

Prior to this time ElementxL hit the ground running in 2019 and released two singles in 2020 and another in 2021. The single ‘RAIN FREESTYLE’ saw the artist receive acclaim from Triple J:

No songs are ever the same for ElementxL. Much like their name, their music approach is based on the ancient Greek philosophy where elements - earth, water, air and fire are what everything is made of. ElementxL took this as an analogy and applied it towards emotions in the concept of music.

“We all experience so many different feelings and expressions of ourselves. I think music really taps into that. I want to be able to express different aspects of myself with this project and not feel like anything has to sound a certain way.”

One thing that stays consistent in ElementxL’s music is guitar - “it is almost like a paintbrush which I use to help tell my story.” The artist started their music journey with guitar at age 13 and it’s been a constant with them over the years. Being drawn to melodic-driven music and heavy metal growing up, their taste expanded and they fell in love with hip-hop and electronic music.

You can hear all of these elements fused in their music today, the varying genres allow ElementxL not to be pigeon-holed into any one scene and gives them space to explore a plethora of sounds and textures.

To bring the visual world of ‘NOSEBLEED’ to life ElementxL worked with their good friend Alexander Leeway. The talented director and cinematographer drew on the lyrics of the song, creating a visual journey that sees ElementxL beaten up by negative self-talk and doubt, to see the coming out on top to overcome this. The track and the visuals also draw parallels to the artist's journey of being beaten down physically from the autoimmune disease myositis. Despite a long journey of recovery, this has done anything but deter ElementxL from being driven to achieve their dreams in music.

‘NOSEBLEED’ is just the first of what is to come from ElementxL after 2 years between releases. With plans for lots more music to come you can expect a journey through genres and sounds.
