Born in Los Angeles, California, January Thomson is now based in the UK following collaborations with a host of underground DJs and producers. Often compared to the likes of Kate Bush and Bjork, January has unleashed her latest single ‘Whelmed’ ­- the title track, taken from her latest EP.

Blending warm harmonies and emotive vocals, with a sparse yet haunting undercurrent, ‘Whelmed’ is a goosebump inducing track. Paired with a beautifully dramatic aesthetic, the accompanying video captures January alongside the awe-inspiring power of the natural world.

Produced by Steffen Aaskoven and Thor Finland, ‘Whelm’ combines smart production and masterful arrangements with distinctive, genre-defying melodies. The track’s tender strings are played by the Copenhagen Cello Quartet ­– an addition that, combined with atmospheric reverb, adds a beautiful edge to an already distinctive track.
