Ed Sheeran appears to have suggested an imminent return to music after teasing fans with a mysterious image on Instagram.

The singer-songwriter took to his account on Tuesday (December 13) to upload a image that is purely the colour blue, with no caption added. This caused fans to respond with delight, with one user writing: "YOU'RE BACK YAAASSSSS."

One year ago Sheeran told fans on Instagram that he would be taking a break from music and the limelight after spending a number of months on the road in support of his second album 'x'. The blue picture is his first post since then.

Songwriting partner Amy Wadge recently confirmed that Sheeran's new album is completed and that it will "break the internet". His last effort 'x' was released in 2012.
