Justin Bieber takes Michael Jackson's U.S box office title

Canadian teen sensation Justin Bieber has surpassed the legendary Michael Jackson in box office sales.

The 'Baby' star's debut movie 'Never Say Never 3D' has overtaken Jackson's 'This Is It' as the most successful concert type film at the domestic box office. Billboard.com reports that by yesterday, March 20, Bieber's flick had grossed $72.2m whereas 'This Is It', although incredibly close in terms of ticket sales, was stuck at $72.1m.

Bieber still has a long way to go if he wants to beat Jackson's overall success from 'This Is It' though, as it remains the world-record holder having taken a phenomenal $261.2m globally since its release.

The 17-year-old hitmaker, who is currently on tour in the UK, tweeted about the news last night:

"PROUD of #NEVERSAYNEVER3D and grateful 2 the fans 4 making it the #1 grossing concert doc of ALL TIME!! MJ is still the greatest! #HONORED"

"but MJ is still and always will be the KING OF POP! and worldwide we got a long way to go. #MJtheGreatestEVER#SHOWRESPECTTOTHEKINGOFPOP"
