Taking place on Sunday 3rd October, music industry friends and the Laviniere & Groove Odyssey family will be hosting a huge fundraising event at Ministry of Sound in support of legendary DJ and promoter Steve Laviniere — of duo Bobby & Steve fame. ‘Dance For Stevie’ aims to raise funds to facilitate Steve’s rehabilitation and future care after complications from COVID-19.

Perhaps best known as pioneers of soulful house with their legendary KISS FM slot, Garage City and enduring Groove Odyssey label and club event, Bobby & Steve are dance music royalty. With their dedication shaping nightlife as we know it and giving so much to the scene, it’s now time for those who have benefited from their input to rally round.

After Steve contracted COVID-19 in March 2020, the virus spread to his nervous system, causing a rare brain injury called Acute hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis (AHLE/Hurst Disease). This diagnosis has caused a Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness, leaving Steve unable to communicate or move his body. All money raised will go towards the family home adaptations, and future care to enable Steve to return home when the time is right.

Bringing the best in dance music together, the team have rounded up a breathtaking lineup, comprised of artists who have collaborated and connected with Bobby & Steve throughout their remarkable careers, shared countless stages with them and are all close friends. It’s yet another example of the house music family coming together and supporting one of their own. Kicking off at 2pm and running until 1am, the all-dayer will play host to an expansive range of genres and styles to delight all fans.

Stepping up to the decks throughout the day, legend of the scene and remix titan David Morales, while the disco don Dave Lee will serve up the deepest cuts of soul, funk and disco with Defected label head Simon Dunmore unleashing only the most infectious of house classics. Few encapsulate London club culture quite like Norman Jay MBE and the rare groove pioneer will be on deck, as well as Chicago house trailblazer Terry Hunter. Without Barbara Tucker, house music simply wouldn’t be what it is today and she’ll be laying down her iconic soulful vocals on countless hits, with garage titan Spoony and number one soul man Trevor Nelson also making appearances alongside many, many more, all in support of the cause.

David Morales says: “I first met Bobby & Steve when I first went to London in the late 80’s. Bobby & Steve have and still play a pivotal role in the world of house music in the UK. Respect.”

Simon Dunmore says: “The love & respect of family & friends is hard earned. For over 30 years Steve has promoted good times, great music, supported and been at the forefront of a great London scene, created communities, bringing people together, made them dance…made them smile. As father. As DJ. As an entrepreneur. As a man. I feel & see nothing but respect & love for Steve.”

Norman Jay MBE says: “My love, admiration and total respect for Steve as a terrific DJ and all round great music and family man which knows NO bounds. The music world’s a better place with Bobby & STEVE!!”

The team have also started a GoFundMe to further raise money for Steve’s rehabilitation.
