A new era of Origin began in a spectacular three games series which saw the Brydens Lawyers New South Wales Blues wrestle back the Origin shield from the Queensland Maroons.

State of Origin I has delivered the biggest television audience of 2018 with a national average of 3.414 million viewers. Origin II is the second most watched program of the year, and Origin III ranked fourth.

Speaking following the result, Nine’s Director of Sport, Tom Malone, said: “Yet again State of Origin has proved to be the greatest aggregator of eyeballs in Australia. Despite this year’s series not going to a decider, an awesome amount of people watched Nine’s broadcast. The players deserve all the praise for putting on an incredible display of skill and speed, and superhuman performances under heavy fatigue.”

Nine’s Director of Sports Sales, Matt Granger said: “State of Origin has once again provided our partners a unique premium content environment to engage with audiences, and further cemented itself as the ultimate reach platform for advertisers”

Nine’s Wide World of Sports will continue to provide viewers with unprecedented access for the rest of the NRL season with four nights of Live NRL fixtures from Round 21, with the welcome addition of Saturday Night Football leading into the finals series.
