Today 18-year-old Nigerian-Scottish songwriter TAYO SOUND releases new track, ‘HEARTBREAKER’ with the official visualizer via Black Butter/Arista Records. Listen BELOW and watch the accompanying visual BELOW.

The track was produced by George Fitzgerald and Courage (Ray BLK, Lava La Rue) and bounces confidently over an upbeat bassline while Tayo’s melodies swoon back and forth, showing off a songwriting skill far beyond his years. On writing the track Tayo said:

“‘Heartbreaker’ came after a long day in the studio. We thought we were done but then Courage started playing this beat and I knew straight away it was gonna be a really special track. We had to stay and finish it and 'Heartbreaker' was born. I was lucky enough to have George Fitzgerald also add some of his production skills, which was sick as I love his artist project and it just added that final something to the song.”

‘Heartbreaker’ follows the release of Tayo Sound’s debut single, “COLD FEET”, which saw UK and US press coverage across the board, love from BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stevens and fantastic new artist support from Spotify and Apple Music; including features on the ‘Our Generation’, ‘Alt Pop’, ‘NMF Friday’ and ‘Good Energy’ playlists and hitting #5 on the Viral Chart.

Growing up around church where he got his first introduction to music, his older brother’s ringtones were the first time he heard 3-minute pop songs, sparking an obsessive love for music that led him to busking the streets of Reading for 10 hours a day with his first set of songs at the age of 14. Working solo in his bedroom on old laptops and the microphone on his mobile he recorded two demos and sent them everywhere he could to get noticed. Subsequently he got support from tastemaker blog Hilly Dilly and caught the attention of labels both in the UK and US before singing with Black Butter and Arista.

Since then he’s had the opportunity to work with the likes of Al Shux (Kendrick Lamar, SZA and Lana Del Rey), George Reid (of Aluna George), Rob Milton (Easy Life), Blake Slatkin (Juice WRLD, Omar Apollo) and The 23rd (Khalid, Grace Carter) as well as performing for BBC Introducing and alongside Lianne La Havas as part of an Annie Mac Presents night at the Moth Club in London. This groundwork is all pushing towards a body of work that will form his debut EP due later this year.
