Resonate is a diverse, cinematic album intermingling between genres. Encompassing both the epic & the intimate, from highly lyrical & emotive classical concertos, soaring choral musical panoramas, to folk-inspired melodies & popular singer~songwriter style pieces, the album also includes a special commission from H.R.H The Prince of Wales, Rhythm of the Earth to highlight the message & ethos of this Terra Carta project at the recent COP26 Climate conference in Glasgow.

Resonate celebrates the unifying power of music, our connection to the Earth and to each other. It also represents the value of Nature, and is a powerful call to action to come together to create harmony and balance in our natural world. Sarah says. “We are in a time when there’s great uncertainty and fear about the world we’re currently living in. I believe music and nature have the power to transcend and transport us somewhere else, giving us a way out, and providing freedom for us to move past these burdens.”

“We are all energetically linked, from the smallest atoms to the infinity of our solar system and of our universe. All life is connected by patterns and rhythms seen everywhere from our natural world, the orbits of the planets, and even within our DNA. We are vibrational beings and we live in a vibrational universe. The energy of music affects us so deeply, I wanted to write an album reflecting that unifying force.

When Sarah was asked by World Land Trust to write a special theme for their new campaign, Guatemala’s Laguna Grande, and also personally by H.R.H the Prince of Wales to write a special piece of music for his project, Terra Carta, the co-creative marriage between music and environmental causes close to Sarah’s heart inspired the birth of Resonate.

ABOUT SARAH CLASS

Sarah Class has become one of Britain’s most sought-after composers and is described as having the ‘Midas touch’ when it comes to creating music. She is an accomplished musician, scoring for film, television and the concert arena, producer, songwriter, and singer.

A classically trained pianist from an early age, Sarah developed a huge love of jazz and improvisation. Brought up on a nature reserve in a large unspoilt part of the Isle of Wight, she spent her childhood surrounded by rare orchids, bluebell woods and carpets of wood anemones – something that would come to inspire not just her music, but inform her very way of thinking and living.

Sarah started to quickly make her mark in the world of television and subsequently the film industry. When she was asked to compose the score for an independent feature film titled ‘The Weekend’ Sarah caught the attention of legendary producer Sir George Martin who subsequently took her under his wing to help and guide her career.

Since then her career has skyrocketed and boasts 3 Emmy Award nominations, a Classical Brit Award nomination, a No.1 album collaboration with Hayley Westenra, a Best Score Award for Sir David Attenborough’s BBC TV series ‘BBC Africa’, plus numerous other hugely successful and highly acclaimed scores for movies and TV.
Sarah is also Ambassador for the World Land Trust. Sir David Attenborough, Sir Chris Packham and Steve Backshall are also patrons. WLT has funded the protection of over 2 million acres of rainforest and other habits over the past 30 years. Sir David even made an appearance on Sarah’s music video ‘I Will Fight’, released in conjunction with the World Land Trust to highlight the devastating environmental issues the world is facing.

ALBUM NOTES

  1. RHYTHM OF THE EARTH ~ TERRA CARTA THEME 6.10

Rhythm of the Earth is a special commission from H.R.H The Prince of Wales, to highlight the message & ethos of his Terra Carta project at the 2021COP26 Climate conference in Glasgow. Terra Carta is the basis of a recovery plan that puts Nature, People and Planet at the heart of global value creation creating a roadmap towards 2030 for businesses to move towards an ambitious and sustainable future: one that will harness the power of Nature combined with the transformative power, innovation and resources of the private sector. Sarah says, ‘It was amazing to be asked by H.R.H to write this piece and so exciting to become part of such an inspiring and environmentally influential project. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Terra Carta”.

  1. RESONATE (Featuring Caroline Dale) 5.12
    Specially dedicated to my father

Resonate was written specially for the charity World Land Trust becoming the new soundtrack to their Guardians of Nimla Ha’ appeal funding the tripling of the Laguna Grande Reserve in Carribbean Guatemala, from 1668 acres to almost 5000 acres saving over 700 animal species including Ocelot, Puma, Jaguar and Margay.

The lagoon is the most important breeding area for the region’s West Indian Manatees and two endangered primates - the Yucatan Black Howler Monkey and Central American Spider Monkey as well as the White-lipped Peccar and Red-eyed Tree Frog. The area is also a crucial part of a key biological corridor for migratory birds as more than 100 species stop over in Laguna Grande throughout the year. The 200 or more permanent residents include the Black Solitary Eagle, Ornate Hawk-eagle and Keel -billed Motmot. There are also over 30 species of bat present.

Sarah says: “We have this incredible opportunity to save one of the most critical ecosystem chains which links seagrass meadows to mangroves and tropical forests. I am so passionate about the work of WLT because their game changing work to protect and preserve these important and unique areas of the globe is so powerful and effective. I love being able to contribute through the creation of music, as music is such an immediate and uniquely connective art form.”

  1. WOLFGANG & CONSTANZE (Featuring Johnathan Morton) 4.42

This piece is dedicated to the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his wife Constanze.

Sarah has spent much time in Vienna and recalls a very special time many years ago when she was granted permission to sit and compose music in the Mozarthaus where Mozart lived not far from St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna’s old town, between 1784 to 1787. The music written at the “Figaro Haus” became the middle movement of Sarah’s Symphonie Lumière on the Warner Classics release of Cantamus~Aurora.

  1. BLACKBIRD 3.04

Blackbird is a transcendent spiritual song about the universal energy of unconditional love that connects us all. It’s also about the “fullness of being” in consciousness and in finding, and tapping into the joy of this gift of life we’ve all been given, however hard it may seem at times. Written at a time of great sadness, Blackbird rises above all earthly fears and concerns to a place of freedom, light and never-ending happiness.

  1. I AM OCEAN 3.39

This song is a protest song about protecting the ocean and the teeming life within it. It’s about its power and sustaining life force. Sarah says, “Our worlds oceans are threatened by climate change, contaminants, plastic pollution and over-fishing. Only 2% of our global oceans are included in strongly protected marine parks. Scientists estimate we may need to protect 30% of the oceans to provide properly for the future of ocean wildlife and ocean health. As a surfer, supporter of Surfers Against Sewerage, swimmer and great lover of the sea, on seeing how much plastic ends up in our oceans and waterways,” Sarah says “it’s never been more starkly demonstrated to me how much we urgently need to come together as a planet in order to act NOW to protect them.”

  1. BRIGHT EYES (Featuring Eimear Quinn) 4.14

The Richard Adams haunting book Watership Down remains Sarah’s favourite book of her childhood. This arrangement of the song Bright Eyes from the 1978 animated film Watership Down originally sung by Art Garfunkel is a duet between great friend and fellow collaborator Eimear Quinn and Sarah.

  1. I SAW YOU IN A DREAM 3.12

The only track on the album which has perhaps a more contemporary/pop feel, this euphoric song is about passionate connections between people, and the complexity of loving another who is always just out of reach. The dreamer has complete freedom to love and be loved on an entirely different plane of existence…

  1. THE EMERALD RIVER 3.27

Many years ago Sarah travelled to Moravia in Czech Republic and fell in love with the Czech composer Leoš Janáček’s music and homeland. This piece, part-written in Sarah’s 20s was originally influenced by slavic folksong and the beautiful nature surrounding his birth home in Hukvaldy. Later the piece was completed, inspired by the beauty of the River Soča in the Slovenian alps.

  1. TREE OF LIFE (Hymn) 3.01

Tree of Life is a hymn with the symbol of an oak tree, it’s strength, longevity, nourishing and protective qualities in our natural world as a metaphor for the ever-present unconditional love and spiritual protection of God and the angelic realms.

  1. THIS ETERNAL DANCE 3.22

A solo piano piece inspired by the continuous ebb and flow of life’s journey, remembering that with all the challenges we face in our lives, the heartbreak and adversity, “this, too shall pass away ..”
