‘An impressive set of songs which portray her as a solid entertainer’ – Maverick

She’s supported the likes of Michael Bolton and Gabrielle, wowed audiences with a headline tour last Autumn, her debut single went straight onto the Radio 2 playlist and she boasts the envious position of ‘Highly Recommended’ in HMV for her debut album, ‘Whirlwind’. Now for 2019, Lucy-May is back with the promise of a new album and tour later this year, plus a stunning double-A side single, ‘Mixed Emotions/Over Before It Started’, released 1 March, a beautiful pairing of songs to showcase the unique diversity of this masterful artist.

Showcasing her masterful ability to traverse musical styles, this double-A-side single is a juxtaposition between foot-stomping catchy country-pop and mellow melodic harmony. Heading back to her country-roots, ‘Over Before It Started’ is a Shania Twain-esque, up-beat tale of unrequited love, a depiction of how broken trust can tarnish future romance, leaving it over before it’s even started. It’s a catchy, twang-filled melody delivered by Lucy-May’s powerful feisty vocals, which whip and weave their way straight to your sub-conscious, spinning gloriously until you find them tripping off your tongue. In delightful contrast, ‘Mixed Emotions’ is a beautiful ballad brought to full bloom by Lucy-May’s soothingly rich, enticing vocal range. A self-penned biographical tale, ‘Mixed Emotions’ reveals a love lost (but not forgotten), so the memory of love remains, even though the relationship has wilted away. Heart-wrenchingly candid, Lucy-May honestly hands us her inner-self in a ballad that you’ll want to listen to again and again.

Kent born Lucy-May was put on this planet to perform, competing and winning a string of national dance competitions from the age of 6 and performing in Annie by the time she was 11. Reared on a musical diet of 60s sounds, Lucy-May names Dusty Springfield, as her ultimate idol, with influences including Patsy Cline, Stevie Wonder and The Beatles. This explains this artist’s unique blend of gorgeous soulful/country-flecked melodies, fused with a modern twist; a sound which gives her a distinct sound-out from anything else we’re hearing from the industry right now.

Her debut single, ‘Paper Heart’, a strong country flecked ballad, stormed onto the Radio 2 playlist, played first by Terry Wogan on his Sunday show. A fortuitous meeting with Jeff Cohen in Nashville led to a writing collaboration which led to the creation of her debut album ‘Whirlwind’ in 2015 – an album which sat proudly on the ‘Highly Recommend’ shelf of HMV during first week of release. Demand for Lucy-May to hit the live circuit poured in. She was called to open for Michael Bolton on the UK leg of his world tour including a performance at The Royal Albert Hall, as well as supporting the likes of Robben Ford, Ashley Monroe at Bush Hall, Kristian Bush at Brooklyn Bowl, Striking Matches full UK tour support including Union Chapel, Larkin Poe and Gabrielle. 2017 saw the release of Lucy-May’s follow-up album, ‘Little By Little’, accompanied by a nationwide UK headline tour and a link-up with charity, Prostate Cancer UK.

Now, Lucy-May is back with a stunning new look and a showcase double-A-side single, which shines a beaming spotlight on this artist’s ability to bring sheer class across multi musical styles.

The double-A-side single, ‘Over Before It Started / Mixed Emotions’ is released on 1 March
