AboutEurovision: This iconic music competition was born in the 1950s, with a mission to unite nations across Europe, using the power of music. Created by Swiss author and director of the European Broadcasting Union, Marcel Bezençon, the Eurovision Song Contest was first broadcast in 1956. Originally inspired by the Sanremo Music Festival in Italy, Eurovision was one of the first televised shows to be broadcast to an international audience.
