Shiny Brain Crayons

Yeh Yeh Yeh Yeh (Do It) is the 4th single from south London alternative-indie/post-punk duo Shiny Brain Crayons. Cheerleading you into action SBC are ripping off the covers & breathing fresh air through your soul with this invigorating bop.
Laid back vocal swag rests atop fizzing synth loops, linking post-punk alternative hip-hop & indie roots. Yeh Yeh Yeh Yeh (Do It) goes from rise to shine, as they motivate you to journey into the entrancing world of creativity. Along the way, SBC make friends with Roald Dahl; get inspired by Quentin Blake; jump into Alice’s Wonderland all the while revelling in weirdness, joy and living in the moment.

Yeh Yeh Yeh Yeh (Do it) channels the B52’s, Asteroid Galaxy Tour, Janelle Monae and a guitar solo Beck would be proud of. BBC6 Music’s Dave Gilyeat says SBC “nutty and I love them”. Their previous singles were recently featured on BBC6 & Radio X John Kennedy, quoting; “ a future big one?”

To celebrate the release on May 5th, Shiny Brain Crayons will perform an energetic show supporting The King Blues at The Engine Rooms, East London.

Shiny Brain Crayons continue their musical mark with groove-based riffs, stark drums and driving guitar licks, building into dark electronic beats, courtesy of award winning producer/multi instrumentalist Stergin. This signature sound steps up a gear with singer/bassist Marianne Canning’s vocal delivery: laid back, rhythmic, oozing confidence.

Yeh Yeh Yeh Yeh (Do It) is the first of a 5-track EP set for release in September 2024. Each song proudly mapping their ethos of upbeat motivation, bold playful imagery and self-empowerment.

Both musicians have been involved in many projects over the years, having been signed to major & indie labels (eg. Red Bull), touring the world with bands such as The King Blues, James P Honey, Cats and Cats and Cats and creating award winning live shows (12 Photos 12 Tracks - the global journey of a Polaroid turned into music).

Tour dates:

Date City Venue
11/05/24 London Geordies Bar (Hanwell Hooties Festival)

About

Shiny Brain Crayons have been firing earfuls of musical joy in south London since 2023. Producer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Stergin heralds from the Austrian mountains. He’s been signed to major & indie labels, composed music for Olympia 2020, worked for human rights organisations in Amsterdam & Los Angeles and also was part of InHouse records - the world’s first label operating in and out of prisons. He’s also the founder of The Mindful Ukulele Method combining the teachings of mindfulness with the learning of how to play the Ukulele.

Vocalist/bassist/songwriter Marianne Canning emigrated to the city from the calm suburbs of Reading. As well as embracing the multi-instrumentalist life on keyboard, guitar and voice, Marianne is a trained classical violinist. Cutting her teeth touring nationally and internationally in violin, bass and keyboard she has been busy playing as a session musician with multiple acts. Career highlights include supporting Die Toten Hosen and The Subways in Germany with The King Blues to a 50,000-person crowd in 2018 and playing Reading and Leeds Festivals 2011 with A Genuine Freakshow.

They’ve been making music together for the past 5 years morphing into Shiny Brain Crayons to release a new untended energy. SBC love to get their crayons out and create, experiment and connect to their inner child: “when your mind is open and free, songs and ideas come more easily to express yourself - let your imagination run wild."

Shiny Brian Crayons invite you into their world: dressed from head to toe in Crayolas finest palette, infectiously shout-singing with a child-like enthusiasm. Their music laces fuzzy guitar and bass over driving synth loops. Listen carefully and you may just feel your vibrational aura rise, a feel good smile singing along with their catchy riffs.

Quotes

“"Relentless and strangely mesmerising"
(Tom Robinson, BBC6 Music)

“The second single from the emerging U.K. pop duo, Noodles For Life cooks up a hazy, washed-out with bouncing bass exhales, sweeping away the texture for the abstract poetry verse that takes you on a cinematic journey through time, space and nature.”
(Darryl Sterdan, Tinnitist)

“Raw, exciting power punk electro punk which hits you square in the face from the first listen’
(Kristian Davis - Luna Sky Records)

“The best things to happen to music since ears”
(Itch, The King Blues)
