(Dublin, Ireland) -- Things don’t always go to plan. Thankfully, second chances are often better in the long run. More than just the theme of J Smith’s current single, ‘Blood Orange’, it also proved true for the intimate and personal accompanying video. https://youtu.be/SgyTrmeD_wU

The second single from Smith’s upcoming debut album tells of a couple re-igniting their passion in love. The original idea for the visuals focused on a couple’s decision to start fresh and rid themselves of the facades which had held them apart. But, all didn’t go to plan.

Smith explains, “The initial concept of the video was to show two bodies embracing and covered in paint, as the video runs in reverse, slowly lifting the paint and revealing the pair. Although I had convinced my pregnant wife to partake, I couldn’t find paint which wouldn’t either harm my unborn child or render us hairless.” Time for plan B.

The concept changed to create a story of turmoil and triumph over dwindling passions. But it wasn’t so simple, according to Smith, “A sudden emergency halted filming and we’d only had three hours to shoot everything. Having worked with Oliver Kelly and Alex Lynch on many occasions before, I knew their skills and the relationship we’ve developed as a team, I wasn’t worried. We stitched home movies with video they shot and stock footage. I am thrilled with the final result.”

The video is a very personal look at J Smith and his wife Ffion Thomas and the narrative is compassionate and intimate, completely fitting for the themes in ‘Blood Orange.’
