SUMMER TALES – OUT TODAY ON DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHONOFFICIAL PRESS RELEASENEWS PROVIDED BY Universal Music Canada “Adventure is in the air” - Goldmund Old masters in new hands: ten contemporary artists respond to popular classics in eclectic, genre-defying style The perfect summer playlist – listen to Summer Tales BELOW 22 JULY 2022 (TORONTO, ON) – Chilled-out sounds for warm summer days – David Douglas, Goldmund, Peter Gregson, Laura Masotto, Mathilda, Model Man, Roosevelt, Someone, Sam Thompson and Xinobi all took up an invitation from Deutsche Grammophon’s New Repertoire Team to reimagine some of classical music’s best-known works. From Pachelbel and Bach to Debussy and Ravel – they had several centuries’ worth of masterpieces to choose from. “DG gave us complete freedom,” says Mark Brandon, aka Model Man, who has reworked Debussy’s La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin for the album. US composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Goldmund, meanwhile, chose the famous “Flower Duet” from Delibes’ opera Lakmé and has pared down its lush scoring. “I feel there’s a simplicity to summer that I wanted to impart,” he explains, “so I kept the instrumentation sparse and intimate.” His rework is out today, alongside the album. From laidback soundscapes to more dance-floor oriented tracks, the music on Summer Tales captures all the colour and ambience of the season itself. Summer Tales is available to stream or download from today (22 July) and comes out on vinyl on 26 August.
