Wavestyle is the new music series created by East London rapper YS Wave.
Released via YouTube (as well as Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music), the series of five tracks and accompanying visuals encapsulates the young artist’s unique blend of trap, rap and afrobeats - which YS Wave has aptly named the ‘wave’ genre.
With Wavestyle, YS Wave is doing something that few other artists have done — releasing music in an unconventional and compelling way. Wavestyle is not an album, nor are the tracks just stand alone singles. The slow and calculated release of each track operates much like a TV series and works to create a sense of anticipation amongst fans and new listeners alike.
So far two tracks and videos have been released: ‘Talking That Shit’ (2021) and ‘Wakka Wakka’ (2021). At under two minutes, YS Wave still manages to pack poignant lyrics into ‘Talking That Shit,’ focusing on online abuse by trolls hiding behind their screens — “talking that shit on the net, you a lie.” The bars hit hard and the flow is infectious. ‘Wakka Wakka’ brings us tropical vibes with catchy word play and a more trap-infused beat (with hints of drill as well). YS Wave has produced all the tracks on Wavelife himself, a testament to his creativity, work ethic and commitment to the craft. Long time collaborator and director Joseph Kundi directed both videos, bringing in some wave imagery — we see the rapper at the beach and amongst the waves.
Next to drop are ‘All Of It’ (a trap-heavy track focusing on the hustle YS Wave’s been on), ‘Big Risk’ (more melodic than the rest of Wavestyle but YS Wave still keeps the trap energy alive) and ‘Burning Out’ (pure trap energy).
With plans to release volume 2, YS Wave is continuing to bring his energy to the UK and beyond as he begins to establish his unique ‘wave’ sound as a genre in its own right.

About

YS Wave is the East London rapper blending the sounds of trap, afro-beats and rap, boasting unlimited creativity and a skillful ear for detail. The past four years have seen YS Wave drop upbeat tracks like ‘Ready For This’ (2018) featuring DJ Cable, full-out trap bangers like ‘Really Wanna’ (2020) with Shayne Rasko as well as instant hits like ‘Humble’ (2021). YS Wave also dabbles with remixing popular tracks and hopped on a wavemix of Ariana Grande’s ‘Break up with your girlfriend (I’m bored)’ (2019). Creating music also extends to production for this young rapper — YS Wave produced several tracks on his most recent project Wave Life (2020). Visual storytelling is another part of YS Wave’s creative output and adds another layer to his music. YS Wave started his musical career in his early 20s under the moniker Young Sneakz. 2017 signalled a name change to YS Wave, a fresh start and a sonic evolution. These changes pushed YS Wave to move outside the box and continue to grow artistically. Music was something YS Wave connected to from a young age. From playing a range of brass instruments at school and listening to quintessential rappers like Biggie his teenage years. Piecing lyrics together was something he’d spent hours doing in his book of rhymes — the pursuit was almost natural.
