Adam Levine has jokingly confirmed that he isn't set to marry Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger.

As previously reported, it emerged today (August 22) that Avril Lavigne is engaged to Kroeger after dating for six months.

The news came as something of a shock to many, with their relationship largely being kept secret.

It seems, however, that Maroon 5 star Adam Levine may have been getting contacted by confused fans mixing up his name with Lavigne's.

Conversely, Levine might have just been having a joke at the couple's expense.

He tweeted: "Just to clear up the confusion, I am NOT engaged to Chad Kroeger of Nickleback."
