One Direction fans raise over $1,500 for local charity in honour of Zayn Malik's birthday

One Direction fans have shown their generous side by donating over $1,500 to charity to celebrate Zayn Malik's birthday.

The superstar singer is due to turn 21 on January 12 and some quick-thinking Directioners have launched a fundraising page to raise cash for one of his hometown's charities.

They are raising funds for Bradford based One In A Million, which "helps children and young people, many of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds".

They also provide "education in and out of school through Sports, Arts, and Enterprise programs".

At the time of writing, $1,502.38 has been raised for the cause, with t-shirts also made up for the initiative.

To donate money to the project, visit the JustGiving page here.
