One Direction show support for gig ticket poverty scheme

One Direction have lent their weight to a project designed to fight poverty with the lure of concert tickets.

The British lads have joined up with Global Citizen, who allow fans to snap up tickets in return for undertaking positive actions, such as signing petitions or messaging their local politicians.

The scheme is already in action in the US, Australia and New Zealand and it will now be rolled out across the UK.

One Direction commented: "We are absolutely proud to join so many amazing artists to inspire people to take action to end extreme poverty."

Other British names who support the cause include Jessie J, McBusted and Bastille.

Each ticket will have a different 'point value' and those with enough points are entered into a lottery.

1.7 million positive 'actions' having taken place worldwide through the scheme so far, which has helped support the eradication of polio and fund health workers in Africa.
