Niall Horan on Ireland: "When I get off the plane and it smells like cow poo I know I’m home"

Niall Horan says that he knows when he's returned home to Ireland because of the smell of cow dung.

The singer hails from Mullingar in Ireland and he is never shy about celebrating his heritage.

Speaking to Top of the Pops magazine, the 'Live While We're Young' star said that the fragrant aroma of cow manure is a reassuring one because it reaffirms that he is home again.

Horan said: "When I get off the plane and it smells like cow poo I know I’m home. Ireland is 100% home."

The singer now lives in London and returns to Ireland on holiday to see family and friends.

One Direction meanwhile are on the cusp of opening their massive Where We Are world tour.

The first date on the run is due to take place in Colombia on Friday (April 25).
